William Thomas Sawyer Jr, 88, of Wilmington passed away peacefully at Lower Cape Fear Life Care Monday, May 3, 2021.

Tom as he was known was born on April 1, 1933 in Wilmington, NC, son of the late Wm T Sawyer and Theodosia Woodside Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jared Sawyer.

Tom loved his family and his faith in Jesus Christ. He was kind, thoughtful, and loving.

Tom was a carpenter. He met the love of his life, May. They were married in 1954. They spent 67 amazing years together. They raised their family and enjoyed their lives in Wilmington.

Tom is survived by his wife May Leitch Sawyer, his three sons; Michael Sawyer of Wilmington, Wendell Sawyer (Sherry) of Ohio, and W. Randolph Sawyer (Becky) of Wilmington, three grandchildren; Jessica Sawyer of Wilmington, Caroline and Elisabeth Sawyer of Wilmington, step-grandson Christopher, four great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren, sisters; Kathleen Barefoot, Margaret (Horace) Hardison, June Keel, brother, Ed (Mary Jane) Sawyer, and many nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held 1pm at Harbor Methodist Church, 4853 Masonboro Loop Rd, Wilmington, NC on Monday, May 10, 2021. In his memory please wear Hawaiian shirts or crazy socks to the service. A private inurnment will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

So sorry to hear about Tom’s passing. Tom was a wonderful and funny person. I really enjoyed bowling with him and going to tournaments. We always had a great time. He will be missed. My condolences to the entire family.

Our Uncle Tom was a wonderful person and uncle... We will always cherish our fond memories of him.. We are blessed to be surrounded by Uncle Tom's carpentry skills every day, as we live in a house that "Uncle Tom Built".
Heaven has certainly gained a "Singing Shepherd".
