

Charles Clement Lucas, Jr., MD passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025. Charles, the son of Charles Clement Lucas, Sr. and Sallie Elizabeth Williams was born in Wilson, North Carolina on August 30, 1942. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received an A.B. in Chemistry and History, and the Doctor of Medicine. He completed his medical training at Duke University where he was Chief Resident of Family Practice. He was elected to membership in the Order of the Old Well at the University of North Carolina. For his medical leadership activities in North Carolina he was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the highest honor given by the State of North Carolina.
Dr. Lucas served in the United States Public Health Service from 1970-1972 and was commissioned as Senior Assistant Surgeon. Dr. Lucas moved to New York City in 1979 where he lived until 1988 when he moved to Greenwich, Connecticut. He maintained a private practice of internal medicine in Larchmont, New York until his retirement in December 2018.
He is survived by his two children, Ryan Clare Lucas (Mary) and Christina Lucas Langley (Kenny); his cherished grandchildren, Marilyn Charles Lucas, John ‘Jack’ Ryan Lucas, Kepler Scott Langley, John Oliver Langley, and Palmer Lucas Langley; his sister Elizabeth Lucas Langston (Doug); and his nieces, Lynne Marini (Greg), Dawn Bynum, April Brice (Albie); and many grand-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dr. Lucas will always be remembered as lifelong learner, a compassionate healer, and a devoted father and brother who touched the lives of many, both personally and professionally. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he impacted through his work and his love.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 11am.
