

Delores Vernelson Leisy, 82, of Wilson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. She was born to Mr. Binnie Samuel Vernelson and Mrs. Emma Lee Barnes on January 07, 1940 in Sampson County.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband LT. Col. Robert R. Leisy, one brother; Robert Vernelson, and two sisters; Virginia Vernelson Bartlett and Sylvia Vernelson Ryman .
She is survived by her sons Colin R. Leisy (Susan) of Wilson and Roy S. Leisy of Roxboro, one daughter Zoetta L. Romanoff (Alex) of Oakland Ca., one brother Benjamin Vernelson of Virginia, four grandchildren; Amanda Porter, Elaine Leisy, Brittany Cash and Ian Leisy and five great grandchildren; Julie Porter, Hope Porter, Tyson Cash, Colin Wilson and Elle Wilson. The family wants to thank Becky Mallard for her support, friendship and assistance for Delores in her final weeks.
Delores loved to travel. Her destinations with her husband Robert included Egypt, India, Thailand and most of Europe and South America. At the age of 79 she had her last big adventure with a solo visit to China and Nepal to take the trip she and Robert had planned decades before but never taken. The pair enjoyed their time together and lived life to the fullest. She loved to garden and enjoyed everything Christmas. Delores will always be remembered for her love of fashion and sense of style. She will be truly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
The family has entrusted Thomas-Yelverton with funeral arrangements. Visitation will be held at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home from 2:00 - 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 27, 2022. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery. The funeral arrangements at Arlington are still pending at this time and will be updated once scheduled.
