Leander Collins

Leander was born on August 10, 1938 in Wayne County, NC. He will always be remembered as a kind spirit who loved his family. He enjoyed driving, taking walks and visiting with his family. He loved his church and was a member of Wilson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Ira Earl and Ora Lee Thompson, three children; Leander Graham, Antonia Collins and Antron Collins, one grandson; Jeremiah Graham, and two sisters; Bernice Kent and Katrina Robinson.

Leander is survived by his special friend and mother of his children; Bernice Collins of Wilson, three daughters; Margie Artis (Ken) of Middlesex, Yolanda Whitaker (Tyronne) of Wilson, and Connie Collins of Wilson, three sons; Michael Collins of Wilson, Tracy Collins of Wilson and Stevie Collins of Baltimore, MD, three sisters; Jacqueline Simms of Wilson, Brenda Hunter (Dennis) of Wilson, and Hazel Downey of New York, three brothers; Ira Jr. Thompson of Wilson, James Earl Thompson (Annie) of Wilson, and Eddie B. Thompson (Freida) of Wilson, twenty-three grandchildren, and thirty-three great grandchildren.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Wilson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Wilson, NC officiated by Bishop Robert Gorham with interment to immediately follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Wilson, NC.
