Born in Wilson County, July 27, 1942, a son of the late Carl and Ruby Lewis Ruffin, he was a lifelong resident. He had retired from Voith in 2005 and was the owner of Ruffin Welding.
Besides his wife Jane, he is survived by his daughter, Rochelle Harris of Durham; his sons, John Ruffin and his wife Karen of Bladenboro and Brian Ruffin of Greenville; his step-daughter, Susan Winders Moses of Greenville; his step-sons, Thomas A. Winders Jr. and his wife Mary of Chesapeake, VA, and Michael Keith Winders and his wife Gayle of Wilson; his sister, Carol Townsend and her husband Truman of Wilson; his brother, Carl Ruffin Jr. and his wife Sandy of Farmville, his 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home, 2708 Nash St., Wilson, Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. when they will proceed to the graveside in Evergreen Memorial Park for services officiated by Rev Jay Summerlin.
