Candler David Smith

Smith, Candler David age 19 of Dacula, Georgia born March 18, 1997 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, son of Timothy and Shawn Smith and the brother of Thomas Smith, passed away February 3, 2017. Candler was a 2015 graduate of Mill Creek High School, Hoschton, Georgia and was a student at Kennesaw State University in Marietta, Georgia. Candler was preceded in death by his grandparents Erlene and P.R. “Bobby” Smith, Winder, Georgia and Barbara and Norman O’Halloran, Suwanee, Georgia, formerly of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Candler is survived by his Aunts and Uncles: Victoria Smith and Jim Godfrey of Sandy Springs, Georgia; Phil Smith of Winder, Georgia; Janet and John Costello of Atlanta, Georgia (and their sons Mike, Jeff and Matt Costello) and David and Pam Cooley O’Halloran of Shaker Heights, Ohio (and their children Nathan, Meg and Jack O’Halloran).

Candler’s interests were varied beginning with his love of music. He played the trumpet and was a member of his middle and high school bands, a self-taught guitarist, and a lover of classic rock and metal bands. He loved astronomy and star gazing with his telescope and inspired his friends and family to learn more. He was also an amateur magician who loved making his family and friends smile with his many card tricks. Candler had a great sense of humor, was compassionate and an avid listener to all.

Most importantly Candler gave the gift of “life” and long-term health through organ and tissue donation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in the name of Candler Smith to the LifeLink Legacy Fund – 9661 Delaney Creek Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33619 or www.lifelinklegacyfund.org. Memorial gifts may also be given in Candler’s name to the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 275 N 5th Ave, Winder, GA 30680 (Music Ministry and Technology Fund).

Candler’s service will be held Saturday February 18, 2017 at 2:00pm at Winder First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. Smith Funeral Home, Winder, Georgia has charge of arrangements.
