Catherine Laverne Maddox

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved “Nana”, “Verne” and “Mama”. Catherine Laverne Sorrells Maddox left her earthly home to be with Jesus on August 13, 2024. After fighting a well fought battle with Alzheimer’s, she was surrounded by her loving family and friends in her final moments. She was a woman of immense faith, humor, and wisdom; cherishing every moment spent with her grandchildren, family, friends and her church.

Laverne was a 1960 graduate of Winder Barrow High School. She worked as an office clerk at Carwood Manufacturing and later retired from Statham Elementary where she was a parapro. She loved her church, Midway Christian. She spent many hours volunteering in her community. She was a proud grandmama who enjoyed watching her grandchildren and helping at their sporting events.

She was the daughter of the late Cleo and Catherine Miller Sorrells. In addition to her parents, Laverne was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, "Clyde" Marvin Maddox, and her brothers: Jimmy, William, and Jerry. She is survived by her sons: Mike (DeeAnn) of Charlotte and Jeff (Neale) of Winder; grandchildren: McKenzie (Don) Kays, and Mason, Trent, and Trevor Maddox; siblings: Tommy (Margie) Sorrells, Carolyn (Tommy) Perkins, and Faye Wiley, all of Winder: sisters-in-law, Elaine Maddox and Carolyn Ferguson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Midway Christian Church, 1406 Hog Mountain Rd, Winder, GA. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM at Midway Christian Church. The burial will at Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
