

Mr. Joe W Barrett, age 89, of Winder, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Episcopal Church. Joe served his country in The US Army during WWII in the European Theater, serving in France and Germany. He was a member of The 76th Signal Corps serving under General George S. Patton’s “Big Red One” and was in many battles including The Battle of The Bulge and The Liberation of Buchenwald Concentration Camp. He was a proud WWII Veteran and made many monetary contributions to make the WWII Memorial a reality for many brothers in arms. Joe was also a proud member of The American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul T. and Weebie Jones Barrett; his loving wife of 68 years, Freddie Lemon Barrett and a brother, Paul Jones Barrett. He is survived by three daughters, Paulette Hall (Fred) of LaGrange, JoBeth Dukes (Ray) of McDonough and Susie Fountain of Rentz; a son, John Scott Barrett (Deborah) of Thomasville; a brother, William E. Barrett (Patricia) of Greenville, SC; thirteen grandchildren, Kristin and Mere Hall, Ryan Vik, Ronald H. Williams Jr., Chad B. Williams, Lyndsay Weaver, Jessica Fountain, Chase, Jordan, Peyton, Avery, Savannah and Taylor Barrett and six great grandchildren, Katie and Matthew Williams, Christopher Morrison, Kyleigh and Palmer Weaver and Hannah Barrett. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, January 16, 2016 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home, Winder, GA with Father Don Harrison officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00PM before the service. Interment will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens.
