

Richard Alan Burroughs (Rick), 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on May 25, 2024. A loving father he will be forever missed by his only son Michael S. Burroughs and his fiancée Colleen A. Stellwagen of Lawrenceville, GA. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 70 years Irma Burroughs in July 2023. Rick was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 27,1930. He grew up during the Second World War and left home to work in high end hotels and golf resorts doing various jobs. Rick joined the Army when he was 18. Rick was serving as an Army MP and playing baseball for the post team in Nurnberg, where he met, fell in love and married Irma. Life in the military brought multiple tours of duty, military awards and promotions, travel adventures and memorable experiences.
In 1976, Rick was transferred to the base at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia. Serving for 30 years he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer in 1978. Rick was awarded the Bronze Star during the Korean and Vietnam wars and various other awards during his service. Rick was an accomplished golfer and loved playing with his buddies and Michael, whenever he could. Rick took pride in his home and worked tirelessly at keeping the yard and flowers beautiful. Rick and Irma moved to Lawrenceville in 2022 to be closer to Michael and Colleen. He loved sharing time at their home eating his favorite meal of homemade Spaghetti and Meatballs, he also enjoyed having pancakes anytime he could at the Pancake House. Rick loved “pulling your chain” joking and laughing with his family and caregivers. Rick was a true gentlemen. Family and friends admired his kindness and gentle demeanor. Rick was selfless, generous and caring and folks he loved always knew they were his first priority. Rick moved to Azalea Senior Care in November 2023, where he and the wonderful owners and staff considered each other extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars. A graveside Military service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at 12:30PM.
