

William “Timbo” McElroy, 55 of Harlem, GA passed away Monday, September 18, 2023. He was a native of Winder and a 1986 graduate of Oconee County High School. After high school Timbo joined the Marine Corp and served as a Marine in Iraq and the Panama Canal. He later joined the Georgia National Guard and served as an equipment operator for the Engineers and also served in Afghanistan with them. Timbo was proud to have served and retired from the National Guard after 23 years of total service. He was of the Christian faith and was one of the founding fathers of The Brotherhood of Jesus Christ Motorcycle Ministry and The Building Worship Center in Augusta, GA. He was a past member of The Rocky mountain Elk Foundation and held world records in weightlifting. Timbo was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, husband, father to many, greatest bad boy ever, war hero, woodsman, hunter, flint knapper, knife maker, accomplished and renowned archer, storyteller of folklore and imaginations, a true spinner of tall tales and a romantic lover of life. He ate what he killed and hugged what he loved. Timbo was one of the best friends you could ever have.
Timbo was preceded in death by his Dad, Tony Highfield, better known as Pop and a step-son, Joshua Walton. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Belinda Shelton McElroy of Harlem; his mother, Judy Hardigree Highfield of Bishop; his father, Larry B. McElroy (Diane) of Buckhead; a step-son, Jeremiah Walton (Katie) of Lincolnton; his adopted son, Christopher Young of N. Augusta, SC; two brothers: Anthony Highfield (Sarah) of Evans, and Benjamin Highfield of Bogart; three sisters: Lynn Glass (Perry) of Statham, Lane Childs (Frank) of Bishop, and Elizabeth Tiffany (Jamey) of Monroe. A tribe of nieces and nephews that thought he hung the moon also survive.
A celebration of Timbo’s life will be held at 6PM Saturday, September 30, 2023 at The Building Worship Center, 2240 Bayvale Rd, Augusta, GA 30909. There will be a meet and great from 4-6PM before the service.
