William Curtis Sorrells, age 84, of Winder, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022. William was the son of the late William Cleo and Catherine Miller Sorrells. William was preceded in death by brothers Jimmy and Jerry Sorrells and a brother-in-law, Clyde Maddox.
William was born in Barrow County on May 9, 1937. He graduated from Statham High School in 1954. After graduating, he joined the National Guard. He met Betty Jo in 1957, they were married in 1962 and would have celebrated the 60th wedding anniversary this June. William was a salesman for most of his working career, selling insurance and eventually becoming a car salesman at Akins Ford where he stayed for thirty-plus years. After retiring, he continued working for Akins as a driver. William was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing basketball until he found his love of golf. As much as he enjoyed playing sports, he loved supporting his children and grandchildren and even some "adopted" grandchildren (nieces, nephews, and friends) in whatever sport they played. He was a huge supporter of school sports in general and of the community. William and Betty Jo worked in the Booster Club for years helping build the program at WBHS. While William loved all sports, his true love was UGA, and that love has been passed down to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. William was a lifelong member of Midway Christian Church in Winder, Georgia, the church that his granddaddy helped establish. He was a deacon and an elder there for many years.
William is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Dodd Sorrells; son, Andy (Steffanie) Sorrells; daughters: Sandy (Tony) Davis and Nikki (Keith) Collis; brother: Tommy (Margie) Sorrells; sisters: Carolyn (Tommy) Perkins, Laverne Maddox, and Faye Wiley; sister-in-law, Jackie Sorrells; grandchildren: Chris (Tiffany) Davis, Savanna Davis, Austin Sorrells, Will Sorrells, Brittany Collis, Seth (Savanna) Collis, and Gracie Collis; great-grandchildren: Kori Davis, Taylor Davis, Baby Davis, Shaelee Collis and Jake Collis; and caregivers: Nicole Hamilton and Natalie Sneed.
