It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Denise Isabel Young, on June 18, 2011, five days following her 91st birthday. Denise is survived by her devoted husband, Norman, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.
Denise was born in Yorkshire, England and came to Canada in 1946, at the age of 26 years. Denise was an intelligent, strong, and independent British woman, with a wonderful sense of humour. Despite significant physical setbacks in recent years, she never once complained. Born in a generation when women were homemakers, Denise was a career woman, who rose to the position of Assistant Supervisor of Medical Benefit Policies at Hiram Walker’s, retiring in 1985, after more than 30 years. During her lifetime, Denise and Norman enjoyed lengthy annual trips to Sanibel Island, Florida. We will forever miss hearing Denise send us off with, “Toodles.”
We would like to express our deep appreciation to the wonderful staff at Heron Terrace, who have taken care of Denise with great care and compassion for many years. We would also like to thank Gordon Cook for his wonderful assistance the day of Denise’s passing.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service in honour of Denise will be held on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aidan’s Anglican Church, (5145 Wyandotte St. E.) with Rev. Tom Carman officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Windsor Goodfellows or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Walter D. Kelly Funeral Home. (519)252-5711.
