Strength is the word that comes to mind as we fondly remember Donald Reid Mills (Gramps) who passed peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and children on September 18th, 2017 at the age of 70 years. His strength was demonstrated when he got a second chance at life 8 years ago when he was the recipient of a double lung transplant. Gramps reason for fighting was his family. Predeceased by his parents Harold and Anne Mills. He is survived by his caring wife Susan (nee DonCarlos) and her children Lisa (Malcolm), Chris and Leslie (Scout, Jett, James). He was the epitome of an amazing father to his children Chris Mills and wife Jennifer and Sherri Kinghorn and husband D'Arcy. His biggest enjoyment was visits from and hearing stories about his ‘guys' (grandchildren), Samuel and Sawyer Kinghorn and Katie, Ellie and Brody Mills. He was the youngest brother to Alan (Mavis), Stuart (Carol), and Jim (Carmelle) Mills. Fondly remembered by Chris and Sherri's mother, Lynne McCarney and the Parent family. He is survived by many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of their Uncle Don. Don was the Purchasing Manager at the City of Windsor for many years. Don enjoyed his time on the golf course with the boys on Wednesday night. Sunday afternoons were spent watching the Detroit Lions with his family. He was always the life of the party and his sense of humour could not be matched. Gramps made precious memories with his family during annual Ipperwash Beach vacations and always liked to be outside in the sun. We know Gramps is handing out ju-jubes in heaven! Thank you to the Transplant Team at Toronto General Hospital who allowed Gramps the chance to make many more precious memories with his grandchildren and family. We would also like to thank the staff for their excellent care in his final days. Visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 895 Ouellette Avenue (519-254-3223) on Friday from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Don will be held in the Anderson Memorial Chapel on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. Save a life, please consider being an organ donor. Memorial tributes to the Trillium Gift of Life Network, 483 Bay Street, South Tower, 4th Floor, Toronto, ON, M5G 2C9 would be appreciated by the family. www.andersonfuneralhomewindsor.com
