Dr. David James Carswell

15 septembre 19464 février 2021

A kind, generous, intelligent and hardworking man.

He passed away on Thursday, February 4th, 2021, leaving behind his wife of 52 years Carole, three sons Jason, Adam and Ben, and two daughter in-laws Sarah and Carrie. Also left behind were his four wonderful grandchildren: Abigail, Lilly, Riley and Julia.

He was born in Sarnia, Ontario in 1946, where he played competitive golf as a junior. He attended the University of Western Ontario, and graduated medical school in 1970. Eventually, Dr. Carswell set up practise in Harrow, Ontario where he worked tirelessly with Anna and others for nearly four decades, serving the community with unwavering effort (retiring in 2016).

His passions outside of work included boating at the Windsor Yacht Club, golfing, playing pool and vacationing with family and friends. He will be dearly missed by anybody LUCKY enough to have met him.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Met ICU, nurses, nurse practitioners, and a special thanks to Dr. Dhar. Donations can be made to the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association in his honour. There will be a Celebration of Life for friends and family in the summer when weather and local social gathering restrictions permit.

Rest in peace. Forever remembered, smiling gently in our hearts.

  • A Celebration ofLife will be held at a later date, when family and friends are able to gather in greater numbers

I am so sorry to hear about your fathers passing Adam. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time in history and your family. Ben was still very little when we became friends and Jason was a year older but I remember playing at your yellow corner house in Forest Glade very well. I'm happy your mom made it and gets better. Mr Carswell will always look down from heaven at you with love and joy in his heart. He passed away a proud father. God plz take care of our friend's father in heaven. God Bless you and your family Adam. Love Amarjit S. Maan and family.

Dear Carole .. Jason .. Adam .. & your endearing families
I was do deeply saddened to hear the passing of your beloved husband .. father .. grandfather .. I share your sorrow .. your loss ..
I remember the first time we met together Carole .. I invited you for lunch at Harrowood Seniors Community .. you and Dr. Carswell responded to my invitation .. I was so very hopeful to procure his professional services as physician for our residents at our retirement facility ..I was so very pleased when he was most willing to accommodate our need ..
That was the beginning of a wonderful working relationship that lasted all the years from the start of his Harrow practice until his retirement from his practice .. and also became the personal physician for my entire family .. so very loved by them all ..
Having been an administrator .. college professor .. head nurse .. graduating in 1970 ..I had many many experiences in the field of medicine .. and I wish to say it was such an honor to know him ... and to have had the opportunity to work with such a brilliant mind .. his loyalty and dedication to his practice .. his patients .. his fellow colleagues .. & his family .. is the cherished legacy of a true humanitarian .. may he rest in peace and may you .. his beautiful family .. share your memories of his love .. his life .. his laughter ..
Blessings to you all through the Peace & Grace of God 🙏

Jack and I can only imagine the sadness and emptiness that will be a part of your daily thoughts and feelings. We feel your sadness as well, and will always miss David’s ‘sunshine smile’.
Being ‘dearest friends’ for 37 years, we will always treasure our many years of Tuesday night movie dates, trips on the boat with Captain Dave, cottage visits with walks on the beach and appreciation of awesome sunsets.
Your ‘loving’ family will provide strength to each other as your memories honour David, your ‘precious’ husband, father and grandfather. Those ‘treasured memories’ will remain a part of each of you always!

Our Grandpa was a guy always ready for an adventure, eager to involve the two of us in any way possible - often anything related to water, rollercoasters, and sunny-times!

I remember fondly our adventures aboard their parrot-filled boat - especially trips to Cedar Point, but also just 'camping' aboard overnight at the Windsor Yacht Club when we came to visit. Other adventures involved visits to the cottage, or a family favorite, our visit to Disney World just a few years back. Grandma and Grandpa visited us in Florida often, where he would introduce us to neat restaurants (one even featured mermaids in a giant aquarium right there in the dining room!) or other amazing experiences such as swimming with dolphins in The Keys or scuba diving.

These magical times will be remembered always, especially in some wonderful pictures - after all, a picture is worth a thousand words!
