Mr. Safrance was my favortite teacher at Belle River.  He made history come alive for me.  He made relevant local history extraordinary.  He is included in my fondest memories of high school.  So sorry for your loss.

Gord was often my mentor,sometimes my tormentor, but always my friend.  Although I have not seen him for the best part of forty years, now that I am contemplating retirement and return to Essex county, it pains me that I shall not see him again this side of the heavenly harbour. I was tremendously saddened to read of LCol Safrance's passing.  I had the honour and privelage to serve as his Adjutant, and his tenure was marked by a singular dedication and passion.  You were a friend and mentor, and will be greatly missed.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Gord. I knew Gord and John from Kennedy Collegiate, were both Gord and myself were officiers in the cadet corp. Gord's laugh will always be remembered, as we occasionally sampled his dad's wine from the barrel in their basement when a young adults. Gord was so alive, and his passing will leave such a void in the Safarance Family. He taught my daughter Kim. at Belle River High, what a small world!

We will miss Gord terribly.  He always made us welcome  , and a part of the family. He was a good friend and would be there to help with any situation that arose. We enjoyed his great cooking of the large roast at the cottage (smatchna!)every May 24th and the good times we had , on and off the golf course You will be missed !

It was with great sadness that I heard of Gord's passing; however, just as quickly a smile came to my face as I remembered the good times we had together under his command in the Windsor Regiment.  The honour of commanding Canadians is a privilege afforded only to a chosen few – and Gord was one of the best. Mr. Safrance will always be remembered for being a wonderful teacher and mentor.  He commanded my father in the army and inspired my brother and myself in the classroom.  I can still hear him whistling phantom of the opera songs and greeting me as I entered the room.  He never forgot a name or a face and whenever you ran into him, he would sit and chat with you just like it was yesterday that you last spoke.  His life made a significant impact on many. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this time. I apologize that I could not attend the celebration for Gord as my teaching and coaching takes up all of my time.  I really learned a lot from Gord over the years especially about being a teacher and coach and how to relate to students while remaining to be a role model in their lives.  I think of Gord often when I am faced with tough decisions and need guidance.  It helps me to remember conversations that we had about situations he came across when he was a teacher.  I really learned a lot from him and I will miss him very much. I love you very much.

We'll miss your great bar-b-qued roasts and conversations on long weekends at the Bend and in Florida. There was never a dull moment with you around. Your kindness and hospitality will always be fondly remembered.
