I discovered Milka's obituary only today - a year late.
I first met her in Grade 1 at Victoria Public School.  She was one of my ongoing class mates through public school. although we had a different circle of friends.   Her girl friends were Carol, Joyce, Lily, Nancy,Kathy and many others.    And then we all went to high school - many of us to Herman Collegiate,  and Milka eventually became an employee.   We last had contact in 1979 when we exchanged a re-acquainted letter and birthday greetings, since our birthdays are close in August.    I always think about her on August 4th.

To Nadia and family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies. Life is a journey and it is our responsibility to love and help one another. I can see from who you are that your mother must have epitomized that. Let her memories and spirit live on in all of you...until you meet again, live the life she would want you all to have. 

Sorry to hear about Milka, a truly wonderful person, all my love to the family. 

Milka is a beautiful singing, smiling, swwet, sweet cherubim! No wonder she was our beloved church choir directress longer than anyone..... with the sweetest smile ever! 

I came to Milka's beautiful home in Riverside and helped put up Christmas decorations her last Christmas, and brought her some holy oil and the Akathist of St Nectarius our mutual spiritual sister, Alexandra brought from a monastery in Greece. Milka rewote it herself and read this Akathist 3x a day then applied the holy oil on herself with her deep faith in and reverence for God. 

God rest her beautiful, precious  sweet  soul. I am so honoured to have known her and been a dear friend and true sister. Milka is the finest example of an Orthodox Christian in our church which I love so much! 

I remember once years ago, I sang a solo from the choir loft, a hymn we sang at Monastery Zica, a 13th century monastery in Serbia where I abode. While I sang,  she came right up beside me to fully experience this Byzantine melody and mystic experience, and told me after I finished, she wanted to learn that, that it was so beautiful.... 

I honestly have no doubt Milka is singing that now with the angels, as she is definitely one of them and always has been...

Just last Easter.... one very short month ago, I was singing tenor with Nadia, who was filming the choir singing (she filmed exactly 3 songs and of course, the joyous Hristos Voskrese) for Milka to bring the Easter Liturgy to her mom who could not attend that most special service of the liturgical year,  and I burst into tears beside her, telling her to give Milka all of My Love, that I so wanted to call her, but...  Nadia kept telling me this will mean so much to her. Well it means SO MUCH TO ME to know we have SUCH A FINE SPECIMEN AND EXAMPLE OF SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHRISTIANITY from GRACANICA!

I recall Milka as a friendly, smiling and positive
young lady. Milka brighten up the office.
 She was a  very dedicated , efficient staff member,
and always helpful to me.

I remember Milka treating me to an ice cream at the local ice cream shoppe. We walked along the waterfront and shared deep thoughts about faith and Jesus. Warmest embraces to all of you..I  thought about you at school today Milka and I miss you. You inspired me to be me..may we all reflect deeply on our thoughts, words and deeds and aspire to live in love.

We pray that in this difficult time, the love of God shelters you and mends the pain as you move forward. We were deeply saddened to hear about your loss. Our deepest condolences to Milka's family and Gracanica choir. Milka will be greatly missed, especially among her choir friends all over Canada and USA.  Vjecnaja Pamjat!
