Passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Monday, May 27, 2019 at the age of 71. Loving mother of Jody (Steven) Zan and Robert (Ann-Marie) Spindler. Proud Gma, grandma and bonus grandma of Paige, Sarah, Seth, Mila, Neven, Amanda and Marissa. Special GG to Hendrix, Barron, Ronin and Kaydence. Survived by her brother Fraser Green. Predeceased by her sister Trudy (George) Stewart. She will also be missed by her cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Reunited with her dog and best friend Molly.

Patty retired from the Windsor Essex County Public School board after many years, where she influenced many students with her personal flare. She would amend the curriculum to include her love of penguins, reward students with the after school Sticker Club and end of year pool party in her backyard. As a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Patty worked as secretary, was coordinator of the Food Bank, member of the choir and the ACW and even from her ICU bed, she continued to volunteer and get donations for the fashion shows and other church events.

As per Patty’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial visiting will be held at Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre (1969 Wyandotte St. E. 519-252-5711) on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Visiting will continue on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at St. Mary’s Anglican Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the celebration of her life at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Churchyard. Donations in memory of Patty may be made to St. Mary’s Anglican Church. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.walterdkellyfuneralhome.com

Health issues prevent me from attending Patty's funeral, but I want to say how grateful I am for all the efforts she gave to make the food cupboard such a stable outreach for St. Mary's church.
My mom, Grace Hull, started the food cupboard in 1987, and though donations came in to support those who needed food, it really flourished under Patty's co-ordinated efforts to involve the schools and churches in St. Mary's neighbourhood and beyond whenever she had the opportunity. Patty's warm, friendly personality just made you want to support her cause and the food bank was one of them. I will miss you Patty, your enthusiasm for life and your love of St. Mary's church. May your generous spirit live on .

I’m so glad to have been taught by some incredible teachers over the years - and I hope they know how special their impact on our lives was. Mrs. Spindler was one of them.

I was in Mrs. Spindler’s last 3rd grade class before she retired, and she let us all choose a stuffed penguin from her classroom collection. She taught me cursive writing, all about penguins and the environment, and basic arithmetic. But more importantly - she taught me the importance of teamwork, always making time to read, taking care of your friends, and speaking from the heart.

Rest In Peace, Mrs. Spindler - you dedicated your life to making the world a better place through educating children. And now heaven will be a better place with you in it.

My deepest condolences Jody , Rob and your families on the loss of your dear Mother and Grandmother. I worked with your Mom at John Campbell. Also we were friends as well. We shared the love of Penguins. We shared many good times . We laughed, we cried and we kept in touch meeting for lunches, dinners and just good times by the pool. Your Mother was a great friend and wonderful person. She touched the lives of so many. I am glad I got to visit with her while in hospital. Her sense of humour was still there. She will be missed.

My first memories of Patty go back to an unforgettable childhood neighbourhood - old Walkerville in the early sixties. Patty was in my mother's Girl Guide troop at St. Mary's Anglican Church and she and some of the other local gals would often hang around our house as we lived across the street from the Church and Patty lived on the next block. My big brother may also have been another reason, yet to this day I'll never forget her teaching me and my baby sister the words to "I've Told Every Little Star".
It was 'pure Patty' when she came out to the lake for a visit after mom passed to see my dad . I was also later to find out that she was a lifeguard at Essex Golf Course and my wife Suzanne remembered her from the pool as a kid, as well. Always giving.
Patty and I crossed paths at Bishop's dinners and the occasional Friday at the Walkerville Eatery.
After all those years, we recognized each other. And a smile I'll NEVER forget.

Patti was one of a kind . She was a kind ,gentle, very giving lady. Her faith was strong which made her such a giving soul for St. Mary,s . I am sure that being such an organizer, she will be making sure ,that the next "March of the Penguins" does go off without a hitch! Her big and loving spirit made you truly "BELIEVE". You will be sorely missed and forever loved. My thoughts and prayers go to your daughter and son, God Bless, Cathy Davidson

So sorry to the family of Mrs. Spindler for your loss. She was my grade 3 teacher, almost 20 years ago
and through her flare in teaching and encouragement made me realize the importance of school.
I still have the penguin she gave me. Aaron Jahnke

Dear Spindler Family,
I had the pleasure of being taught by Mrs. Spindler for both grades 2 and 3 in 1996-97 and 1997-98 at John Campbell. She was the teacher everyone hoped for. I still remember the first time she read us Cinderella Penguin. That book has always had a special place in my heart and I will think of her every time I read it to my students. Mrs. Spindler had a way of making everyone feel loved when in her class and even after we moved on to 4th grade she never forgot any of us. I remember learning about her love of rice crispie squares and every holiday my mom and I would leave a box on her desk. Her positive attitude and love for each and every student is one of the reasons I loved school so much. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family during this difficult time. Please take comfort in knowing that so many adults are better people for having been influenced by Pat Spindler during their childhood.

Dear Fraser,Rob Jodie and families...my sincerest condolences to you all .Pat and I grew up 3 houses apart. Marg Pat and I were inseparable..singing in the choir,in Junior Auxillary and Brownies and attending school at King Edward....before high school Marg moved so it was just Pat and I at WCI. We played all the sports we could for the school teams and continued with our church activities including the Bells of St . Mary's ball... Like a prom.. We continued in choir and as one lady knelt in sanctuary during communion Pat and I couldn't control our giggles so our British choir master sent us out. We were really scared and the minister 'Uncle Mac' came with us to Thursday practice.... We sweated all week and in the end it became a sense of myrth for us often as we remembered that incidence... Hopefully we both learned from it
Pat married and I was around for both her children as they grew up. Rob I even had you at high school. The past few years as friendships go our paths went in different directions and we were not in contact as much. I didn't realize how I'll she was until it was posted on Facebook.. She was a unique person and a loving friend as we were growing up... We will all miss her...all my sympathy.....Barbara

Over the last few days we have been reminiscing about Patty's visits out to Calgary to see her brother, our Dad. What we remember most is her infectious laughter. Always a happy and positive person she radiated love to those around her. We lovingly remember this spirit and hope that we can honour her by keeping this spirit alive in us. We want to send all our love and prayers to our cousins who have lost a kind and vivacious mom, aunt and grandma. Rest in peace Aunt Patty.
