

William (Bill) Whitney Harmon, 78, of Winnemucca, passed away Friday June 24, 2011 at the Humboldt General Hospital. He was born on October 1, 1932 in Reno, Nevada to Whitney and Mary Harmon. Bill was a Native Nevadan having lived in Fallon, Paradise Valley and Winnemucca. He graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1953 in the Korean War. He married Pauline Griffiths on June 25, 1960 in Imlay, Nevada.
He was a meat cutter at Sewell’s Market for five years, a local delivery driver for PMT trucking for twenty years, and a Traffic Control Supervisor for the City of Winnemucca until his retirement in 1997. Bill was a member of the the Winnemucca Volunteer Ambulance Corps for ten years, a hospital board member for the old hospital in the 1960’s, Past President of little league baseball, a member of Kiwanis, Century Club, 20/30 Club, and a proud member of the Winnemucca Volunteer Fire Department for thirty six years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports, reading, watching his kid’s athletic activities, playing with his grandkids and spending time with his loving wife.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Pauline Harmon; his children, Roger Harmon of Reno, Nevada, Wendy (Roger) Peterson of Spring Creek, Nevada, Joni (Joel) Albright of Winnemucca, and Paul (Tami) Harmon of Fallon and his grandkids, Jaime and Jon Peterson; Jacob, Justin, and Jillian Albright and Addyson and Jace Harmon. He is also survived by his brother Les (Evelyn) Harmon; a niece, Donna Laubscher and a nephew, Mike Harmon and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Whitney and Mary Harmon.
All friends are welcome to attend a celebration of Bill’s life Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the East Hall of the Winnemucca Convention Center. The family appreciates the loving care and support given by the doctors, nurses and aides at Humboldt General Hospital.
