With sadness, we announce the death of our mother, Ann Peterson, age 94 years, on Thursday, June 15, 2023, in Winnipeg.
Left to mourn Mom's passing are her children Gerald (Susan), Janie (Alex) and John (Sheryl); grandchildren Alanna (Damien), Robyn, Deanne (Karl-Michael), Jamie (Pamela), Dylan, Rebecca, Jennifer, and Jack; and great grandchildren Anelie, Jordan, Dylan, and Wade. Ann will also be lovingly remembered by her niece Donna (Ernie), nephew Morley and other family members in England and the Birch River area, together with Dad's family primarily in the Toronto area. Ann was predeceased by her husband Ivan, infant grandson Joshua, parents Harry and Annas Cox, brothers Henry and Jack, sister Joan and niece Darlene.
Mom was born in the Silverwood area of Manitoba on August 20, 1928, the youngest of four children. She worked as a telephone operator, teacher, and administrative assistant with the RCMP detachment in Cranberry Portage. Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg in 1992 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Mom was loving, independent and some would even say stubborn on occasion. During her retirement, she spent many hours knitting and crocheting beautiful blankets, tablecloths, and doilies. She was an avid curling fan, loved attending Stars on Ice figure skating events, Goldeyes baseball games and visiting the English Gardens at Assiniboine Park. Following a stroke in 1995, she worked hard to walk and drive again. After Dad died in 1999, Mom joined the Reh-Fit Centre and attended regularly to walk the track, use the various exercise machines, and socialize with friends. Despite health and physical challenges later in life, she continued to enjoy bingo, exercise classes and time outdoors. Mom has now been reunited with Dad and the many other relatives and friends that predeceased her.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 10:00 AM in the Thomson "in the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg. Interment will follow.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Brightwater Senior Living, the Victoria General Hospital, Oakview Place and Stella Kandilakis for their loving care of our mother.
In lieu of flowers and if family and friends so desire, donations in memory of Ann may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
