It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Arthur William Maher on May 6, 2013 at the age of 87 with his family by his side at the St. Boniface Hospital.
He will be missed by his children Gord (Madeleine), Tom (Robin), Bruce (Fran) and Rod (Ann), his brother Fred and sister Lilian, his 11 grandchildren, his many nieces and nephews, his special friend Clemence, and all his many other friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Thelma, his father George, his mother Annie, his sisters Muriel, Claire and Laura, and his brothers George and Harold.
Art was born January 26, 1926 in Winnipeg. He served in the RCAF in the Second World War. He then became a Chartered Accountant and worked for many years in private practice, with the federal government and as a volunteer.
One of his favourite activities was spending time with his grandchildren. Art and Thelma frequently had young grandchildren at their home for weekend sleepovers. They travelled to Alberta and British Columbia to visit grandchildren there, and Art spent many hours in hockey arenas across Manitoba to cheer his grandchildren on.
Special thanks to the staff at the St Boniface Intensive Care Unit for their compassionate care.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
