Dr. Arvind Anand Kati
September 27, 1932-October 13, 2022
We announce with deep sorrow and empty hearts the peaceful passing of our dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend at home on the first snow day of the fall season, October 13, 2022.
Arvind was born September 27 1932 in Kaliro, Uganda, East Africa to the Late Shanta and Late Dr. Anand Manjunath Kati. He spent most of his childhood days living in Jinja, with family vacations to India. At the age of 17 he was the youngest to live at the YMCA in New Delhi. During his 2 year stay in Delhi he became a leading junior tennis player and broke a long standing record 5000 meter cycle race. He represented Delhi University for the 5000 meter race, tennis, cricket and badminton. For a brief period he joined the national cadet corps. He then continued his education in Dublin, Ireland where he graduated from Medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. From there he moved back to Uganda to continue his surgical internship and spent three years as a doctor in the village of Iganga where he was the youngest doctor to experience surgical experience during his internship. He then worked with his father in Jinja for 5 years where he got involved with car racing and rallying.
In 1970 he departed for Canada with only $120 in his pocket, settling in Winnipeg with his late childhood friend, J.D. Raichura and received his Canadian medical license. He established his first medical practice in 1971 at the Dakota Village shopping centre. Within a couple of years, he met the love of his life Nancy and they married on his birthday, September 27,1975.
Arvind loved to indulge in the best things that the world had to offer. Travelling with his wife, his girls, grandchildren and friends, advancing his medical career to higher levels, gardening and surveying his kingdom, giving his patients the highest level of attention and care, attending regular MTC events with his wife, hosting parties, and attending dinners and various outings with his family and friends, not to mention the constant stream of chocolate in his bedside drawer. Arvind captured the hearts of many with his mannerism, professionalism and stories. He captivated his audience with the incredible life he lived.
Left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy, is the love of his life of 47 years, Nancy, his brother Jagdish, his children; Shane, Josephine, Neela (Kevin), grandchildren; Jordynn, Derian, Tristen, Rio and Kairo. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all those who took the time to see Arvind both in the hospital and at home. He was blessed to have so much love around him.
A service to celebrate Arvind’s life will be held on October 20, 2022 at 2pm at Thomson In The Park. Reception to follow. Cremation will then take place.
Dignity Memorial website will also have a book of condolence should you wish to leave the family a message.
No story will go untold, as we will meet again, and continue where we left off.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.thomsoninthepark.com for the KATI family.
