Asja was predeceased by her father, Gregory, step father, David, mother, Maria, sister, Anni, brother in law, Hermann, son, Tony, husband, Werner and niece in law, Karen.
Asja was born on January 9th, 1929 in Irkutsk, Siberia. Her father Gregory passed away in 1932 during the Russian revolution. The family suffered many hardships. Maria, her mother, supported the family the best that she could with her seamstress skills. Here she met David in 1935 who took on the family and managed to get Maria, Asja and Anni to Germany in 1943. Here is where Asja met Werner right after World War 2 where they got married. In 1949, Maria, David and Anni came to Canada, first to Gretna, MB and later to Winnipeg. Werner, Asja, Inge and Hermann followed in December, 1950.
Asja was a very hard working lady both at home and at work. Her specialty was cleaning and that is what she did until she retired. Everyone loved Elsie, which was what she was called in English by all the people that she worked for and her other friends. She built many strong relationships over the years. Asja always had time for family as that was her priority. She especially loved her grandchildren. She was also a fantastic cook, baker, homemaker and gardener. Her yard and garden were admired by everyone. With all this going on, she still had time for her crafts, Raggedy Anns, Polly Anns, flower making and arrangements, knitting, embroidery and so much more. Asja had many friends and they hosted many parties. She loved to dance. The cottage at Twin Lake Beach was their second home with Anni and Hermann where they fished, swam, gardened and barbequed. Many enjoyable hours were spent in the cabana. She had a very close knit family.
Asja helped many people out as well in their time of need. She was always there for you.
When her parents aged, she did all that she could do to help out there. After David, her father, passed, she gave so much of herself to her mother, Maria. Don’t know how she managed to do all that she did.
As busy as she was, she still developed very good relationship with her neighbors all around her and would like to thank them for helping her out after her husband passed.
Asja was very generous and supported many charities. Her favorite charity was the Humane Society as she had a great love for animals. There was always a dog in the house and the odd stray cat found a home with her. At this point, I would like to thank Alvin for taking such good care of her last dog, Mia. She couldn’t have found a better home. Dieter, you were always there for her. I would also like to thank Park Manor for taking such good care of Asja for the past four years. Graveside ceremony will take place at Elmwood Cemetery on June 2nd, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. by Klassen Funeral Home. Private Memorial Service will follow. With grateful thanks, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society.
You were truly loved and will be missed by all you touched.
