Raven and Robyn would like to honour their mother’s journey in life by announcing the sudden passing of their mother, Brenda Lillian Carriere. Brenda was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, auntie, cousin, and friend. She was the eighth child of the late Olive and Roger Carriere. Brenda was born on September 24, 1961, in The Pas Manitoba, and spent her childhood and youth in Cranberry Portage.
Brenda is survived by her daughters, Robyn and Raven (Sylvia), sisters, Bev (Kevin), Gail, Marlene, Elaine, and brother Roger Jr. (Sherri), nephews David, Roger III, Curtis, Geoff, Mark, Blair, Jeremy, nieces, Ashley, Caitlan, and Charmaine, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Olive and Roger, brothers Clarence and Leonard, and niece Chasity.
When Brenda was a child she had the opportunity to travel across Canada with her parents, as her father, Roger, competed in professional canoeing competitions and King Trapper events.
Brenda moved to Winnipeg when she was 17 years old, and eventually settled down in the south end of the city, with her daughters, Robyn and Raven.
In her lifetime, Brenda worked as a mentor for young girls staying at the residence at South East College; she took part in transcribing stories of residential school survivors for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission; and worked in administration for the South East Roadside Authority.
Brenda was a strong woman, who faced many struggles in her life. Brenda became sick in 2016 and struggled with her health since; however, her loss was still unexpected and came far too soon.
Brenda was a gifted storyteller. Her humour was contagious. She had a quick wit and loved joking around with anyone. She will be greatly missed. Both her and her contagious laughter is already missing in our lives.
Her daughters are thankful for all of the ways she showed her love. Brenda loved planning birthday celebrations and parties for her daughters, even when they were adults. Robyn and Raven will miss getting surprise treats from Brenda on occasions like Valentine’s Day and Easter. Brenda had a natural ability to bring everyone together for family gatherings.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
Brenda thought Cranberry Portage was the most beautiful place, and had fond memories from growing up there. After Brenda became sick she spoke often about wanting to return to Cranberry, but was sadly not able to before her passing. In the summer of 2018, her ashes will be brought to Cranberry Portage so that Brenda can be put to rest with her parents, Olive and Roger, and next to her niece Chasity.
