Bruce leaves his wife Christine Depoe and her family. He will be missed by his aunt Eunice Hembroff; his cousins Doug Hembroff, Donna Hembroff Smith and her husband Noel Smith and family, Marnie Sholdice and her husband Wally and family.
Bruce was born on August 28, 1946 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the only child of John David (Jack) and Jean (Hembroff) MacDonald.
Bruce attended Kelvin High School, and attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Manitoba. He then moved to Toronto for a time, before enrolling in Law School at Dalhousie University in Halifax. He was called to the Bar in Vancouver in 1990. He lived in Vancouver for a few years before moving back to Winnipeg. He and Christine were married in 1997 and immediately moved to Turks and Caicos, where Bruce remained for a several years. Eventually, they returned to Winnipeg to care for his mother, who passed away in 2011 at the age of 102.
He loved strong Starbucks coffee, hamburgers and chocolate ice cream. He enjoyed listening to music of many genres, reading and researching his family history. He was proud to have been a Queen’s Scout and a member of Mensa. He delighted in using his precise and extensive vocabulary. His subtle humour and quick wit will be missed by many.
A celebration of Bruce’s life will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10:00 am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Bruce’s family wish to thank his friends Jim Fields and Kirsti Walker, who have given Bruce such special attention these last 2 years; Roz Dick who has supported Bruce in so many ways; and his many faithful friends who have visited regularly.
Donations in Bruce’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Manitoba at 10-120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, or www.alzheimer.mb.ca.
