It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father and Nonno Carmelo on Sunday May 1, 2022.
Carmelo is predeceased by his wife Francesca of 56 years, his parents Antonio and Concetta, brothers Domenico (Domenica), Giuseppe (Angela) and sister Pierina (Luigi).
He leaves behind his sons Arturo (Danica) and from a previous marriage Mario (Barb) and daughter Angela as well as grand children Tatyana (Andrew), Michele (aka Mico), Shauna (Shaun), Pamela (Kevin), Angeline (Nathan) and Great Grand Children Jager, Caden, Luke, Tavian and Mekhi along with many nieces and nephews.
Carmelo was born in Geraci, Reggio Calabria, Italy and immigrated to Winnipeg on May 19, 1950 where he opened a shop on Sargent Avenue and worked as a Shoe Maker. All who knew Carmelo enjoyed his stories of growing up and many would laugh for hours. Carmelo enjoyed his summers at the cabin in Matlock playing checkers and working in the yard. In the city he spent his time gardening and talking to the neighbours of Fort Rouge.
In 2017 he joined his wife at The Convalescent Nursing Home where he spent his last years taking care of her. His love for her was so strong, he decided to join her and spend Eternity by her side. A special thanks to the staff of The Convalescent Nursing Home for taking such good care of Carmelo and Francesca with love and compassion they showed and to the very end. He will be missed by the staff as he was such a character.
