Catherine Elaine Johnson (nee Thompson)
Cathy passed away at Poseidon Care Centre on Dec. 30, 2025 after several years of declining health. Her strength, endurance and unwavering spirit in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew her.
She is survived by immediate family and friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Louise and David Thompson. She was born on July 27, 1959 in Virden, Manitoba; the youngest sibling in a family of three sisters and one brother. She moved with family to Winnipeg at the age of five.
She enjoyed swimming, which led to achieving several awards and becoming a lifeguard in her teens. Volleyball was another passion that Cathy enjoyed; especially on Great West Life employee teams, participating where she was employed for several years. Cathy was an avid gardener and her yards were lovingly tended to and filled with perennials. Cathy had a lifetime love of cats and truly enjoyed their companionship; especially the comfort that her dear Una provided to her in the years of poor health.
“WE HOLD YOU”
We hold you close within our hearts,
And there you shall remain,
to walk with us throughout our lives,
until we meet again.
So rest in peace dear loved one,
and thanks for all you’ve done,
We pray that God has given you
the crown you’ve truly won.
A beautiful flower has now left our family garden; as sisters are different flowers from the same garden.
(Many) heartfelt thanks to the excellent care, comfort, compassion and friendship extended daily to Cathy by all the fifth-floor staff at Poseidon Care Centre. Her family always knew she was safe, comfortable and lovingly cared for there. We would especially like to extend thanks to our palliative care professionals, Cancer Care Manitoba, and also Dr. Michael McKay for his many years of care and understanding. Finally, thank you to those who visited Cathy over the past few years; adding some joy to her life.
As per Cathy’s wishes, no formal service will be held; cremation has taken place. A private ceremony and interment of her ashes will take place by summertime.
