It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Cresencia Celones on September 27th, 2025 who passed with her loving husband at her bedside. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by how she was best known, as" Big Mama".
She is survived by husband Nelson Lirio Celones, son-in-law Charles Herscovitch, and her to two precious grandson's Jack Herscovitch and RJ Herscovitch. She is also survived by her brothers Juanito Bayle, Eduardo Bayle, and sisters Benita Bayle-Eusebio, Corazon Cox, Imelda Castro, and Rosita Bayle.
She is predeceased by her son James Howard Celones and her daughter Judy Marie Celones-Herscovith. She is also predeceased by her brother Nolasco Braulio Jr., her father and mother Braulio and Maria Oninia Bayle. While she is sad to leave us here, she also looks forward to being reunited with her family once again.
Cresencia immigrated to Canada from the Philippines in 1972, working as a dressmaker/seamstress creating many beautiful pieces in her lifetime for many family and friends. In Winnipeg, she met her husband Nelson and over a lifetime, hand-in-hand they shared many adventures together. Together they also raised two wonderful children, James and Judy. It wasn't only to her own immediate children that she was known as mother, she became known as "Big Mama" to many of us, her siblings, her nieces and nephews, pretty much all her children's friends too as they would often be at their house as they were always so hospitable. She was especially proud of being a "Big Gramma" to her grandsons. Truly she is a matriarch to many of our families. She was the one who persuaded her parents and siblings to make the brave decision to pursue a better life opportunity outside the Philippines. In a way, some of us could say, we might not be here today had it not been for her and her "Big Mama energy".
