

Dan was born on May 5th 1936 in Sturgis SK. He passed away suddenly at his residence in Winnipeg. The family moved to Elma MB in 1946. At age 11 he was a helper for the CN station agent and became proficient on the wire, using Morse Telegraph Code. In his career with CP Rail as an operator, station agent and train dispatcher he worked the territory from Thunder Bay ON to AB. In retirement he did Morse Code demonstrations at railway museums and for various organizations and conversed with fellow telegraphers on the wire each night. He was secretary treasurer of the Winnipeg Chapter of the Morse Telegraph Club.
Dan was also passionate about hockey and baseball. He coached his sons and later played in a senior hockey league with them. He also coached baseball and in 2010, Dan and his 4 sons were inducted into the MB Baseball Hall of Fame. He umpired baseball in Winnipeg for over 20 years.
Dan spent many years at the cottage. He loved the bush, and time spent on the lake.
He is survived by his wife Janet, sons Jim (Jeanne) Jerry (Cate) John (Elsa) and Rob (Paulette)
Grandchildren: Jonathan (Olya) Tatiana, Dylan: Olivier (Christine) Jacob, Benjamin: Mathew (Jess) Alexis: Stephanie: Michael (Jenn) Raven: Carolyn: Brooke: Jason: Rachel: Justin: Jacquelyn.

Funeral Service was be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Klassen Funeral Home. Interment followed.
