Darlene Rose Foster

2 juillet 1937 – 24 novembre 2025
Avis de décès de Darlene Rose Foster
AUX SOINS DE

Thomson In The Park Funeral Home and Cemetery

Remembered With Love

There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpassed them all”.

- Proverbs 31:29

Darlene Foster was a beautiful person. She loved and was loved by everyone that she met. Her greatest love was her family.

Darlene was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba on July 2, 1937. Following a life full of love and compassion, she passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia on November 24, 2025.

Darlene is lovingly remembered by her son Jason (Simone), daughter Jodi (Brent), grandchildren Joshua & Sarah Bucher and Chase Morhart. Her memory will be cherished by her sister-in-law Myrtice Foster as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Leslie & Ethel Foster. She was also predeceased by her brothers Valmore Foster & Ronald Foster as well as sister-in-law Velma Foster.

Her childhood days were filled with love and many happy activities. She loved spending hours out on the water fishing with her dad, making Smartie cookies with her mom, and following her big brothers, Val & Ronnie (whom she adored) in whatever they were doing. She was a keen student; always enthusiastic to learn.Outside of school, she kept busy swimming, dancing, figure skating, playing piano & she even pitched on the boys’ baseball team. She did it all…even capturing the Miss Flin Flon title.

Darlene moved to Winnipeg to attend nursing school at The Winnipeg General Hospital. She graduated with her classmates of 58B; forming many friendships that have stood the test of time. Darlene excelled in nursing school as her passion for medicine set in. She went on to have an incredibly successful career.

Darlene was very accomplished and well respected within her field. She was instrumental in designing the Intensive Care Unit at the WGH. She established one of the first nurse-run pacemaker clinics in North America, and contributed to the arrhythmia program. She was often sought out by Physicians in the Emergency and Intensive Care units because of her extensive knowledge. She served on the board for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

She had been fortunate to travel a great deal throughout her career attending conferences across Canada, the United States and Europe and was published alongside a Physician on a scientific paper they researched together. Darlene was so proud to be a nurse and maintained her nursing license into her 80’s. Darlene’s love of medicine never left her; even in her later years, when dementia took away her memory, it could not take away her instinct to help others.

Darlene had a special gift, the gift of laughter. It could be heard

down a hall or a block away making those who recognized it smile. She loved to be surrounded by family and friends and was an enthusiastic hostess. She always made friends and family feel welcome and cherished.

The cottage at Falcon Lake was Darlene’s most favorite spot where she loved to spend time with her family and friends and enjoyed happy hour with the neighbours, who became lifelong friends. From the time the cottage was purchased in 1966 until recently, she spent every free moment there from the May long weekend through to close up in October…and a few cold winter weekends in between. “Come to the lake” many have heard her say.

Darlene loved to watch sports and was always proud of her Winnipeg Jets and the Blue Bombers; never missing a game. She was a voracious reader; the newspaper to start the day and a good novel to end it. She relished solving puzzles; completing crosswords with ease and then moving on to tackle the Sudoku.

Above all, Darlene’s greatest love was her children. We came first; always and we knew it. She was an incredible mom. She always made us feel special and loved. She was a very kind person - very giving, very thoughtful and always there for her family.

Darlene would want to extend a final fond farewell to her many classmates, patients, colleagues, friends and acquaintances that crossed her life's path and enriched it. As always, she would offer wishes to all for good health and much happiness.

Our sincere appreciation for the staff at Riverwood Square & Golden Links Lodge for their incredible care and support.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 pm on May 1, 2026, at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home 1291 McGillivray Blvd. Winnipeg, MB R3T 5Y4Please consider a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba should you wish to honour Mom’s life.

God saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so he closed your weary eyes, and whispered “peace be thine”.
