I met Don in Grade 7 and he was a great friend for during our teenage years. He was a great and steady friend  who could always be depended on. 

Carol, I am so sorry for your loss. I remember when he met you and you were the love of his life.

Hey Don, I’d like to tell you that across the many years I’ve known you you’ve always kept yourself available for an opinion and hard to find parts and it’s greatly appreciated. There’s been times I was stumped but you always have the answers. Cheers!

Carol, I am saddened by the loss of your Don. You both have been such good neighbours for a long time. I remember for example how you and Don helped to re-home a black Labrador dog who had been left at the end of our street, abandoned and we could not take him in because of our other dogs. You gave him shelter until the Lab rescue group could take over. These many kindnesses by Don for his friends and neighbours will never be forgotten

Uncle Don,
You taught me how to cliff dive, how to water ski, how to fish, how to hang onto a tube whilst being whipped around the water (with you at the steering wheel of course), how to Belgium bowl, how to check my oil. You made the best bonfires, introduced us to the best games. I have such vivid memories of you drawing out the Belgium bowling teams on labour day weekend, running the silent auction and introducing Nicky and I to sing Achy Breaky Heart. I have always been so proud of you, so proud that you are MY uncle. You are someone who everyone loves because, put simply, you show so much love to everyone. You will always be my very caring, cool, infectiously fun Uncle Don. You may no longer be with us in the physical world but you live on through all of us, and some very special moments just within me. 

Carol, My apolgoies for not being able to make Don’s service on Thursday. I am incredibly sorry for your loss. Don’s social influence ranged far beyond most. Thankfully, for me I got to spend lots of time with Don due to his close relationship with Ted. I can remember any instances each year playing golf with Don. I would venture to guess I lost quite a bit of money to him over the past couple years. I will always have very fond memories of playing golf with Don. He always treated me like a friend, instead of “his friend’s son”. I really appreciated that. It really won’t be the same. 
I also relied on Don to fix my vehicles when I decided to break them. He was always incredibly efficient and always took time out of his day to explain what was wrong with the vehicle, and how he fixed it. I remember I had a CD in my car when Don was fixing it and he recognized the artist (Ridley Bent). When I picked up my car he had burnt a CD for me which include a bunch of his favourite Ridley Bent songs. I listened to that CD for an entire summer. 
Your husband was an amazing man. I looked up to Don my entire life. His generosity and friendship will never be forgotten. 


Dear Don;
Your journey was far too fast, my friend! We generated a lot of memories during our times together, growing up as young teenagers, later as young couples getting married to sisters making me proud to call you my brother-in-law, and finally having children and raising our young families in unison.  This is where the true Don Bonne is exemplified. Our families grew up together as one, always keeping in touch, truly concerned on how things were going with everyone. You treated my children as your own!  We moved away quite early but our families very frequently visited each other and it was if we were never far away. You kept my car running great, kept us all laughing, a smile was never far away. You taught me how to keep your water cistern full, that was fun! There is so much that one can say, though many have already said it. You seemed to know everybody, wherever we went, someone always approached to say Hi! You were a good man, a fine husband to Carol, great Dad to Michelle and Nicole, father- in- law to Graham and Michael and super proud Grandfather to Ella, Ryland, Sadie and Devon, this I can say first hand. Don, the last few months were very hard, especially for you and your family. You are at peace now and you will never be forgotten!

When we think about Don, we think about a lifelong friendship filled with lots of laughter and fun times. Don was kind beyond belief and never turned down an opportunity to lend a hand. Don was a huge part of our lives. Like a big brother and a best friend to us and as a caring “Uncle” to Kari. We have fond memories earlier on, where we spent some of our best times with Don and Carol at Lac Du Bonnet, later in Las Cabo’s, and Arizona. No matter how far apart we were, we stayed in touch and kept our friendship close at heart.

He was a very selfless man with a great sense of humour and true love for life. I am honoured to be able to have called him my friend. I will deeply miss him and so will the Eagles. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family.

To us your Dad was always there for Cale as a friend and treated Cale with respect and kindness. Don was there with brakes, parts, and advice for John when he picked up from Mobile Brake. Then when your Dad built the big shop at your ‘growing up home’, he still worked on our vehicles, Cale’s vehicles and always made time for a chat. This is a huge loss.

Your father meant a lot to me, he helped me be an independent woman with explaining things to me, being honest and helping me travel the continent in old run-down cars that probably shouldn't have left the city, but he would always make them work. I remember asking him when I was 21 to make my old Tempo go another 10,000 km so I could go out to BC to see Haida Gwaii and then down to the island and then to a Ben Harper, Jack Johnson concert. He did exactly what I needed and made it run just over 10,000 km before the car died, it was a trip of a lifetime and I owed it all to him. He also saved my butt on many other road trips where I would call from northern Ontario needing advice and a mechanic and he always knew someone for me to go to or what part I needed to pick up. I loved the fact that he was the first real computer savvy person I knew for downloading tv and movies and would let me borrow from his library when ever I wanted :). I will miss your dad a lot. 

He was a great person that touched many people’s lives and hearts. He will be hugely missed by all that knew him. My deepest condolences to the families and friends.

Don was such a great guy, always made sure everyone was looked after. He will be missed. 

Don was my “Big Bro”. Growing up Don would take me snowmobiling and fishing. Those are the times I will never forget. Don was a great arm wrestler. I’ll always remember trying to beat him. I think I was about 6 years old when I started! It too me many years and I finally bet him. He probably let me win!!!
I worked for Don at Mobile Brake, where he taught me many of the tricks of the trade. He was a great mentor. When Don and Carol moved the business to Lee Blvd, I was working just down the street, when I would go on test drives. Don would be working in his shop, I would stop in and no matter what car I was driving, he’d come to the car and say, “Is that yours?”. It was one of his little jokes that will always leave a smile on my face!
Well “Bro” it’s time to say good bye. I love and miss you. But will never forget you. 


When we were asked to share a special memory of Don I had a hard time choosing one out of the 19951 ones that I have, as every day of my life is a special memory of Don. Don introduced me to music in my early teens, what he liked I liked and grew to appreciate music - he had the best taste in music. His sense of humor is one I always bragged about, he was such a funny guy. When he met Carol, I bragged about her as he truly found a gem. Now I brag about his children and grandchildren. He truly had a good life although far too short. He will live on forever in our hearts and memories. I love you and will miss you dearly, ‘til we meet again.

There are many words I can think of to describe Don – kind, compassionate, funny to name just a few.  Don attracted friends of which he had many, I listened to a speaker once, who said that a man’s worth is not measured by the material possessions that he accumulated but by the friends he had.  When I heard that Don quickly came to mind, he truly was a wealthy man.
The biggest word though that I would use to describe him is centered around the word Love.  Don loved life, he loved his grandchildren, his 2 daughters, his family and friends but most of all he loved his wife.  I often heard him say “I don’t know what I would do without Carol”.  She was his rock!
Don’s sense of humor was contagious, so many times during family gatherings he often had us laughing to the point of tears.
I’ve seen him interact with some of Carol’s respite clients and the compassion and kindness he showed them and everyone was beyond measure.
Time will eventually heal our pain and sadness; his spirit will live on in each one of us because time and time again he will pop into our thoughts and conversations and bring a smile to our face.  We will be amazed at just how many reminders of him are all around us.


Don was my big bro, my best friend, one who gave me support, criticism when I deserved it and most of all the confidence when i needed it. He never walked away from a challenge, he faced it head on. In my troubled years he stuck up for me even when he knew I did wrong. He never said no when I asked for help with any thing I needed. He told me straight out when I messed up my life.  Then by example he showed me how I could be better. Most of all he recognized and gave me credit when I did right. He was a fair and honest man in all aspects of his life. Don was the truest best big brother others wish they had. I was so fortunate to have him be mine. He left us to soon but left us memories that will never be forgotten.
Note to you Michelle, Nicole and Carol: I promise I will help your family with anything at any time as your dad/Don did for me.

When you were a little boy and had a cut, a scrape or a bruise I could kiss it better, not this time, a part of my heart went with you Don. You are in a better place with no more pain. You’re with Dad going out for lunch playing the VLTs, having a game of Belgian bowling. Loving you forever, Mom.

I met Don and Carol seemingly a million years ago. I always enjoyed their company. They are good people. I was deeply saddened to hear of Don’s illness and more so to hear of his passing. They say the truly good ones pass too soon and this is certainly true with Don. My deepest condolences to Carol, the Bonne family and their many friends. My thoughts are with you.

So sorry to hear of Don's passing, worked with Don, laughed and golfed with him, very sad. 

My heartfelt and deepest sympathy to you Carol and your family for your loss. Don was a very special fellow and will be missed by so many. My husband Ken and I had the privilege and pleasure of meeting both you and Don through our Thursday night get togethers at the Rockwood Army and Navy many years ago. Ken curled with Don in the Annual Army and Navy Bonspiels whether it was in Winnipeg, Portage la Prairie or Brandon and Ken always enjoyed his company, his curling skills and they had a lot of laughs on and off the ice together. The two of you made such a beautiful, fun loving couple and it was a pleasure to have met and known both of you back then. Words are very difficult at a time like this, I know as I experienced it 5 years ago when I lost my Ken to ALS. You are blessed with a loving family many, many friends and they will be a tremendous support to you going forward. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of a good friend Don, our thought and prayers are with the entire Bonne Family during this very difficult time.  Don Will Be Greatly Missed! 

Uncle Don, you were a person I liked getting to know, all the times we would come to get a car fixed it was nice to get greeted with a smile and you would say' eh Cheryl nice to see you'' this is my memory of you always smiling Thank you! I will miss you that.
