It is with tremendous sadness that we say goodbye to Edith Lytle, who passed away at the age of 87 years on October 19, 2011 at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg. Edith was predeceased by her parents, father Peter Geddes, mother Anne (Fred) Shelley, and her husband of 52 years, Robert (Bert) Lytle. Left to mourn are her cousins Pat (Bill) Stevenson, Marilyn (Grant) Sorensen, and Anita Horgan; Bert’s nieces and nephews, Yvonne and John Webb and family, Darlene and Morley Lytle and family, Doug and Barb Phillips and family, Blake Phillips and family, Judy and Bunny Trapp and family. She also leaves behind her “adopted” family, Cheryl Wyant, Raymond Wyant (Louise), Kristin Wyant (Daniel, Charlotte and Annika), Kerrie Wyant (Noah and Lucas), Graeme Wyant (Janice, Jaquie, Jordy and Riley), Clara and John Fjeldsted, Margaret Isley (Darren), Emily Fjeldsted (Philippe) and her close companions, Bill Stewart and his dog Molly.
Edith was born in Winkler, Manitoba on September 15, 1924. Following high school, she worked in Sheridan, Manitoba and then attended a business college in Winnipeg. She met and married Bert in 1953, and they lived for many years in Fort Whyte and then settled in Waverley Heights. Edith worked in accounting for many years with Hudson’s Bay House, and then Smith Carter Architects until her retirement. She and Bert enjoyed traveling, playing bridge in the company of friends, curling, dancing, visiting with family and friends and sharing tales of times gone by (growing up in Winkler, holiday adventures and her many trips to the farm in Swan River). She loved music and was a talented pianist, teaching piano lessons for many years. She loved children and animals, and derived tremendous pleasure from the company of both in her later years.
Many thanks to Dr. Karen Boyd and Dr. Frank Martin for the excellent medical care they provided over the years. Special thanks to the many nurses and physicians at the Victoria General Hospital who provided such warm care during her final days.
Funeral service was held at Thomson in the Park on Saturday October 29, 2011 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Edith and Robert Lytle Endowment Fund at the Saint Boniface Hospital & Research Foundation and the Victoria General Hospital Foundation.
