Left to cherish his memory are this son Brian (Jan); daughter Katherine (Scott); grandchildren Justin, Mitchell, Danica and Jean. He is also survived by his brother Norm Engen (Kelowna, BC) and sister Martine Lathlin (The Pas).
Ed was predeceased by his wife Jean and his parents Emma and Aaron Engen of Cormorant, Manitoba.
Ed loved his wife Jean of fifty-one years and missed her deeply. She passed in December of last year. His son and daughter and grandchildren were the joy of his life. Ed loved the Jets, curling, reading, travelling, golfing and his veggie and flower gardens. He also volunteered in many events that took place in Winnipeg. He was the president of the Riverview Garden Society for many years and made a beautiful flower garden with a picnic table and seating where you could enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Ed enjoyed going to Brian and Jan’s lake house at Husavik. He would go for walks on the beach with his grandchildren to collect shells and rocks. He would sit on the deck and watch the wildlife and birds and if anyone asked him what kind of bird it was he would say “It’s a LBJ” (a little brown job).
He also spent time at Katherine and Scott’s vacations home at Sandy Hook. Ed and Jean (his granddaughter) would cruise around on the gold cart and then come in and raid the fridge for snacks. In the evening they would sit on the veranda and enjoy the sunsets.
Ed was very handy, as was evident by the many built projects around his house and his children’s homes. He built beautiful bird houses, Adirondack chairs, matching tables; to many things to mention.
Ed worked for the Provincial Government for 32 years. He started his career in The Pas as a wildlife technician in 1963. He transferred to Winnipeg in 1966 to work in the animal control program. He became a technician for the east region of Manitoba and then was appointed Eastern Fur Manager in 1975. He remained in that position until he retired in 1996.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
The family would like to thank the paramedics and the St. Boniface Hospital emergency staff for their prompt response and valiant efforts; their professionalism was noted and appreciated. Many Thanks.
