She will be deeply missed by her husband Harold of 65 years; her four children and their spouses: Barbara Northrup, David and Barb Christie, Cathy and Ken Beavis, and Michael and Valerie Christie. She will also be missed by her much loved grandchildren who adored her: Eric (Lisa), Sarah (Tyler), Meghan (Dave), Patrick (Elyse), Morgan, Samuel, Alexander and Emma. Evelyn will also be lovingly remembered by her 9 Great Grandchildren: Seth, Kaleigh, Brielle, Myla, Payton, Carter, Noah, Brynn, and Harper. Evelyn was predeceased by her brother Jack, sister Kaye, and her loving grandson Alex.
Evelyn enjoyed a remarkable life of 90 years, spending most of her adult life raising her family at her home of 56 years located at 25 Triton Bay in Winnipeg and at the family cottage at Granite Lake, Ontario. When she was not busy ensuring the household was run with the highest level of efficiency, (including the lunches made, busy schedules kept), she was involved in many outside activities. Evelyn served as the president of the Board of Directors at Middlechurch Home, as well, serving for many years on the Alter Guild at St. John’s Cathedral. She also spent many years as a volunteer at the Victoria General Hospital.
After her children had graduated from high school, she worked as an Administrative Assistant at Glenlawn Collegiate until her retirement in 1992. Upon retirement, Evelyn and Harold spent the years travelling to winter destinations in both Phoenix and Victoria. In addition they made trips overseas to both England and France.
Her most precious times were spent at the family cottage. Not only did she cherish the times with all of her immediate family, but also with the many close lake friends and extended family members throughout the years. She shared many conversations with everyone during appie and cocktail time on the dock. Mom was always one to open the doors to her cottage and home for anyone in need of company. Mom loved to entertain with her special friends, serving a beautiful meal with candles and the finest china on an almost weekly basis. We all cherished the formal Sunday Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding dinners, with many gathered around the dining room table. The final icing on top was the mean blueberry pie that she made with handpicked blueberries and the finest crust in the business. Mom’s love for games, including her favourites Bridge and Spite and Malice, will be relived through her children and grandchildren at family gatherings.
You will be missed by us all, but now you will always be that angel looking out for us.
The extended family would like to express their gratitude for the care Mom received from the medical team at St. Boniface Hospital.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday April 9, 2018 at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 130 Nassau St N.
