Avis de décès de Frances "Carroll" Jamieson

Remembered With Love

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Frances Carroll Jamieson (nee Longhurst). Carroll passed peacefully surrounded by family members on Thursday June 22, 2023 at the age of 84 due to complications from surgery.

Carroll was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. Her first job was at General Electric where she met Neil Jamieson. The two were married in 1959 and embarked on many adventures. Through Neils job at TransCanada PipeLines they moved around quite frequently, first throughout Ontario and then eventually landing in Calgary, Alberta. Carroll always enjoyed setting up her new homes and helping the family settle in.

Carroll lived a long and fulfilling life dedicated to family whom she loved dearly. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and had ample hugs to go around. Carroll was truly gifted in the arts, painting beautiful oil paintings when younger, and later cross stitch portraits, quilting comforters, and crocheting her famous baby blankets. Many children over many decades grew up with one of those beautiful blankets. Carroll and Neil loved to curl competitively and enjoyed many bonspiels with friends. They especially loved spending time watching the Blue Jays play and dining out.

Carroll will always be remembered for her love of animals and for the many dogs and grand dogs she had throughout her life. When she was unable to care for a dog in her later years, she adopted Cody, a beautiful grey cat, who remained her constant companion while in Winnipeg.

Bird song, butterflies and being surrounded by flowers brought Carroll such joy.

Carroll loved to travel, loved watching documentaries and Turner Classic movies, and was an avid reader. Although she did have health challenges that started at an early age, and limited her mobility in the last 5 years, she always made the best of things and tried to retain a positive attitude.

Carroll was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years in 2015. She and Neil settled in Calgary in 1990 where they spent over 25 wonderful years in the same town as their daughter Denise. Carroll moved to Winnipeg upon Neil’s death where she spend her last 8 years enjoying time with her daughter Anne’s family. Daughter Lisa and her son Ryan travelled frequently to both locations.

Carroll is survived by daughters Anne (Mike), Denise, and Lisa. Grandchildren Tiffany (Matt), Jamieson (Courtney) and Ryan; and great grandchildren Alexis, Baylee, Ava, Jayce and Jaxon. Carroll was predeceased by her mother Jean, father Roy, brothers Lockie, Gerald, and Lloyd, and sister Shirley. Survived by sister Yvonne.

She was loved by all that knew her including family, friends and her loving caregivers at the Wellington Assisted Living home.

We would like to thank the team at the Grace hospital for caring for our mother in her final weeks.

As per Carroll’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held to honour her.

If you would like to make a donation in Carroll’s name she herself donated to Cancer charities and the Heart and Stroke.

A special thanks to Anne Taylor for dedicating her early retirement years transitioning Carroll to Winnipeg and taking such good care of her.
