With heavy hearts the family of Gordon Mills announce his peaceful passing at home on Nov. 7, 2013. Gordon now joins his beloved dogs Charley, Digger & CD but leaves behind many people who will miss him dearly. His wife of 32 years Marie, brother Ralph, sister Marion and 3 sons Kerry (Lorie), Kevin (Rae), Scott and their mother Audrey. Gordon also had 3 step children Lisa (Carey), Dana (Grant), Jason (Leslie) as well as several grandchildren Dylan, Georgia, Sarah, Kathryn (Arlo), Zach, Zoe, Blake, Brett, Brandi, Mackenzie, Brenlee, Laine & Jonah and one great-grand daughter Isadora.
Gordon was born Nov. 4, 1930 in Fleming Saskatchewan, the son of Ralph and Pearl, where he grew up on the family farm. Gordon’s life brought him many careers from farming to electronics, insurance, industrial equipment sales and lastly to building his own business, Allquip Industrial Supply, from 1994 until his retirement in the summer of 2012 at the age of 81. Gordon was also a big fan of both hockey and baseball. His favorite professional teams were the Montreal Canadiens and New York Yankees. He and Marie spent many hours together watching their teams play. It wasn’t only the professional teams that had Gordon’s attention, he was very involved with coaching and managing his sons’ hockey and baseball teams in their younger years and continued on as a huge fan and supporter of his grandchildren in their love for hockey as well. The boys always knew where to find Grandpa Gordon in the stands, just had to look for the bright orange hunting toque.
Gordon was a kind, quiet, gentle and loving man. He had an incredible intellect, wonderful unassuming wit and sense of humour that was enjoyed by everyone. It was his endless hard work and determination that made him successful in everything he put his mind to and it was absolutely this same determination that brought him home after 319 days in hospital. Sadly we lost him after only a few short days. Gordon you will be greatly missed, always loved and forever respected. Heaven just got very lucky!
The family would like to thank Dr. Jeremy Lipschitz and the staff of GH3 and SICU at HSC for their wonderful care and kindness towards Gordon during his long stay.
As well Gordon’s family extend an invitation for friends to join them at Southdale Community Club, 254 Lakewood Blvd, on Tuesday Nov. 19th from 2-4 for a Celebration of Gordon’s Life.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter- 3062 Portage Ave R3K 0Y1.
