It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Gord after a brief battle with cancer.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 44 years, Julia, son Ken (Chantal) and daughter Sarah (Tristan), grandchildren Hunter, Connor and Norah, brother Don, sister-in-law Michele and brothers-in-law Jan and Richard. He will also be missed by numerous cousins, family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Shirley Wimble.
Gord was born in Winnipeg on October 31, 1953 and grew up on Truro Street in St. James where during his childhood he had many great outdoor adventures with friends and family. He graduated from St. James Collegiate in 1971. After graduation, he moved to Montreal with his family where he attended Vanier College and then graduated from McGill University in 1976 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance.
He met his wife Julia in Montreal while they were both attending university and working at Miracle Mart department store. After graduation Gord was hired by Wood Gundy in the Investment Industry and began his career in Halifax. Gord and Julia were married in Montreal in 1979. Gord moved to North Bay, then finally settled back into Winnipeg as Branch Manager in 1984. In Winnipeg he was happy to closely follow the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Jets, holding season tickets and attending games with friends and family.
In 1986 Gord and Julia welcomed son Ken followed by daughter Sarah in 1988. Gord loved supporting his kids in whatever they pursued and was very proud of all their accomplishments.
Gord retired in 2012 after 36 years with Wood Gundy. After retirement Gord had time to rediscover his love for golf and fishing at his and Julia’s vacation home in Fort Myers, Florida.
In 2017 Gord welcomed his first grandchild Hunter, and a few years later Connor and then Norah. They brought him much joy and entertainment.
Gord enjoyed a successful career with many great achievements, including making many connections and lifelong friends. He volunteered his time to several organizations throughout his life notably Kiwanis and Special Olympics. He enjoyed travelling and visited all the places he dreamed of, living his life philosophy of not waiting to experience the things you want to. He loved being with family and organizing events to bring people together.
We wish to thank the staff at Victoria General Hospital and Grace General Hospital for their care and compassion.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday July 12, 2024 10:00 am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
