It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harold Elder, beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at River Park Gardens.
Harold was predeceased by his wife, Elaine Elder (nee Slessor) of 54 years.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, Bill (Colleen) Elder and daughter, Tracy Elder (Graham Casey); grandchildren Dave (Jen), Craig (Olivia) and Laura; great granddaughter Hannah as well as Sister Coral and her family. Harold also leaves behind many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.
Harold was born on October 26, 1927 to parents William and Marion Elder. He was raised in the West End where he attended school and made lifelong friendships that helped contribute to his memory of such a wonderful childhood. At the young age of Seventeen he went to work in the family business at Lush Burke Electric where he remained for 35 years until they closed the business. He quickly found work at Standard Aero, a company he truly enjoyed working for; he was a true extrovert so coming from a small family business to a large staff was a perfect fit for him.
After Harold and Elaine got married, they bought a house on Egerton where they raised their two children. They loved the neighborhood and being on the Seine River so much that they remained there for 50 years.
Dad enjoyed camping, reading, music and spending time with family and friends. He loved going to Winnipeg Beach and spending time at family cottages in Sandy Hook and Nutimik Lake.
We would like to thank Dad’s family physician, Dr. Cam Lowden. We would also like to thank the exceptional staff at River Park Gardens for the care and compassion they provided to him during his stay. It was a beautiful setting for him to be in, especially since he was able to have a room facing the Seine River.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family gathering held at a later date.
Donations may be made to the Recreation Department at River Park Gardens, 735 St. Anne’s Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2N 0C4.
“Dad (Bop) we will miss you, you were a very fine person and a true gentleman”.
