Helen Mary (nee Chetyrbuk) Lozinski

Helen was many things to many people; a great friend, a cherished aunt, a friendly neighbour, a caring grandmother and a loving mother. She was a natural caregiver, putting all her love and passion into nurturing those around her; family, friends, home, and garden. She was deeply loved and was always surrounded by the people she treasured. If you met her, you knew she was warm, generous, and full of life. She knew how to make others feel special, safe and at ease. Helen took life head on and acted with a calm mind, open heart, and a graceful determination.

Helen was also incredibly gifted. She was a master seamstress, sewing beautiful clothing for loved ones for all kinds of occasions. On a trip to Kelowna, her dear friend Eunice taught her to crochet, and she was a natural. She could crochet an afghan or knit a sweater in a blink of the eye. She had a remarkable green thumb and enjoyed gardening immensely. Her door was always open, and her home was full of flowers, neat and clean, with something delicious cooking on the stove.

Helen kept busy doing what she loved, which was often taking care of her family or spending time outdoors. Whether at the cottage or in the city, she regularly hosted family and friends who always came back to enjoy her warm hospitality. When appreciating the peacefulness of the country, she loved to sit on the deck watching the birds and animals as well as walking along the trails and beach.

Helen was born in Gilbert Plains, Manitoba and along with her three brothers, was raised on a farm outside of Dauphin. She moved to Winnipeg after she married the love of her life, Victor. Throughout 46 beautiful years together, they raised their two children, Wayne and Terry-Lynn, in Transcona, spending many hours participating in and watching their activities. As a family, they enjoyed nature and spent many summers camping. Vic and Helen built a cottage at Traverse Bay where they eventually lived in retirement. What topped an already wonderful life was being Grandma to Ryan and Stephanie and Baba to Daniel. Helen enjoyed playing many card games, and in her later years, bingo and canasta with her friends at Devonshire House II.

Helen passed away with her immediate family by her side. She will be forever loved and missed by her daughter; Terry-Lynn (partner David); grandchildren Ryan, Stephanie (partner Logan) and Daniel, brother; Nicholas and sister-in-law Laverne; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was greeted at Heaven’s Door by her husband Victor, son Wayne, brothers Frank and Peter, and parents William and Julia. We sincerely thank Helen’s family and friends as well as the teams at Devonshire House II, Home Care, Transcona Nursing, the Motor Neuron Disease Clinic and the ALS Society for their endless love, support, and resources.

A service celebrating Helen’s life will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 10:00am at Thomson in The Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. If friends so desire, donations will be gratefully received by the ALS Society of Manitoba.
