Very suddenly on November 3 2012, Herb Newman passed away at home, with his loving wife Iris at his side. Herb was predeceased by his parents, Ed and Lydia Newman and his brothers Ray and Walter. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 41 years Iris; his sister Martha (Wes) Cook; brother Norman (Janice) Newman; nieces and nephews and great nieces, nephews, cousins and very special good friends.
Herb was born and grew up in Moosehorn area on the farm as an adult, he became a full-fledged rancher / farmer in a cow / calf operation. Later, he changed his occupation to grain farmer, moving with Iris to the Brunkild / Sanford area. Later, he became a Crop Adjustor and was promoted to Senior Team Leader of the 4 offices in the NE quarter of the province.
As a teenager, he came to realize that he needed a Savior for eternity but also for his life here and over the years his love of his Savior was evident in all he did.
He and Iris travelled extensively for many years. It wasn’t long before this joy of adventure, became coupled with another love, World Missions, and he squeezed his long legs onto planes that took him to Africa 5 times, Israel, etc., etc. to do practical Missions service. He served in his church as Missions Director for 25 years and as Recording Treasurer for 35.
Herb was big, and kind and gentle, a loving husband, a faithful friend. He had a ready laugh, loved jokes, even the occasional well orchestrated practical joke. He will be missed more than we can say.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:30 am at Grace Community Church, West Perimeter Highway, South of Roblin Blvd.
In lieu of flowers and should friends so desire, a donation to the Village of Hope in Kitwe, Zambia, Villages of Hope – Africa, 2450 Milltower Court, Mississauga, ON L5N 5Z6, in Herb’s name would be greatly appreciated.
