It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother/brother in-law and friend on April 30th, 2022 at the age of 89 in Winnipeg, MB.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 63 years Darline Wolfreys; Children, Debbie (Rick), Wendy (Jim); Grandchildren Kristyn, Kyle (Kendra), Brittany (Luke), Courtney (Cam); Great – Grandchildren Nicholas, Nathan; Sister & Brother in laws, Daryle (Edmond) Dawson, Kay, Elaine, Leonard (Doreen), Ellis (Mary Lou); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Howard was predeceased by his Father Bert and Mother Mabel; brothers and sisters-in-law Don (Ethel), Ernie (Betty), Art, Lloyd and Henry.
Howard was born in Richmond Hill, Ontario. His most fond memories are those from his childhood on Amherst Island near Kingston, Ontario. He left this special place only to come out West when he was an Air Force pilot in the RCAF during the 1950’s. During a brief hospital stay, he met the love of his life Darline, who was his lab technologist. The two were a match made in heaven. He left the Air Force and eventually made his way to Stony Mountain Penitentiary where he worked for the remainder of his career. He went back after retirement to another job at Stony Mountain until he retired a second time at the age of 85!
He loved to spend time with his friends and family. Loved to travel with family, was an avid reader, loved to fly, and loved his ham radio (VE4WQ). He enjoyed Taekwondo and obtained his first Dan Degree black belt in 1989 and his second Dan Degree black belt in 2015. His happy place was quiet time near water.
A Come and Go Celebration of Life will be held May 28, 2022, anytime after 1:00 pm at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Thanks to Dr. Ratna, Dr. Stockle, and HSC staff GA4, Seven Oaks Unit 5, for their excellent care and compassion. Special thanks to the home care staff (Maryana) for taking such excellent care of Howard. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. His final resting place will be on Amherst Island.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
Heaven has gained an angel.
