Irene Taylor passed away peacefully on Friday evening, April 10th, with her children holding her hands and surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years Fred. She will forever be in the hearts of her children, Lynn Taylor-Boiteau (Leo Boiteau) and Fred Taylor (Laurel). She also leaves six grandchildren, Jared and Erin Boiteau, Alicia Carriere (Luke) Stephanie Taylor (Joel Gartner), Kathleen Taylor, and Frederick Taylor; three great grand-children, Dante, Vayden and Connor.
Mom was born in Winnipeg on December 20, 1925, the 6th of 14 children born to Herbert and Louise Scrimshaw. Mom grew up on the family homestead in Big River, Saskatchewan and eventually moved back to Winnipeg where she was employed as a seamstress for many years. In 1950 she married the love of her life Fred and they moved into their home in Elmwood where they lived together for 55 years. While Mom became a homemaker, she never stopped sewing. It was a passion more than a hobby for Mom and her special gifts were the beautiful quilts that she made. So proficient was Mom that she sewed her daughter Lynn’s wedding gown.
Mom was a devoted mother and grandmother, but her husband was her life and Mom and Dad were inseparable. They cut a mean rug on the dance floor and shared together in everything they did whether it was gardening, helping out their children or working at their church. They were active members at Gordon-King Memorial United Church where Mom was famous for her mini pancakes. After Dad’s passing, Mom moved into Concordia Village and enjoyed her time at “The Lodge” until her passing.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the health care workers and nursing staff at Misericordia Health Centre for their incredible compassion, support and care. Memorial service will be held at Gordon-King Memorial United Church, 127 Cobourg Ave. on Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. Honorary Pall Bearers are Mom’s six grandchildren and her niece Sheryl Holter-Vogel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene’s name to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of your choice. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-033
