It is with immense heartbreak that Kelly and Shaun Valcourt announce the sudden and unexpected passing of their beloved son, Jack. Born prematurely at 23 weeks, along with his beautiful twin sister Charlotte, the Valcourt twins defied all odds. At just 1 lb. 3 oz, Jack was a tiny but mighty miracle. After overcoming numerous obstacles with resiliency and strength, his fighting spirit prevailed.
Despite many adversities in his near 18 months of life, Jack radiated with joy. A ray of sunshine, he brightened every room he was in. From morning to night, Jack was truly a blessing each and every day. Jack’s appreciation for the small things in life, like fake sneezes, splashing in the bath, and just seeing mama and daddy, prompted his infectious smile. Farts, burps, and poopy diapers were especially hilarious to him. He loved blowing kisses, playing with his feet and listening to his favourite toy, the soft spotted cow. He spent many days jolly jumping, “sharing” toys with Charlotte, and getting kisses from his dog, Henry. Favourite memories included going to the park, playing on the swings, and going to the zoo. The most memorable last family outing was going to the Red River Ex where Jack was beaming with happiness. Going on his first amusement park ride with his daddy, Jack was elated. A highlight was picking the right duck at Pick a Duck to win a large giraffe. Jack’s zest for life inspired everyone who knew his story.
Jack adored the people in his life. He had the ability to make anyone in front of him feel like they were the most important person in the room. Jack is lovingly remembered by his great Nana, Joyce Valcourt; grandparents, Rick Valcourt (Diane) and Arlene Talarico; his aunts: Nancy Jacobson, Kelsey Valcourt (Jordan), and Theresa Keppen (Dusty); uncles, Curtis Valcourt (Kristin) and Bob Talarico (Louise); cousins Nicholas, Westin, Bella, Waverley, and Landon; his special great aunt and uncle, Lil and John Nault; and many more close family and friends. Jack is predeceased by his Grandpa and namesake, Terrence Talarico and his Baba, Carol Valcourt. Pallbearers will be John Nault, Curtis Valcourt, Jordan Unger and Nicholas Jacobson.
We wish to express our sincere gratitude to the abundantly caring doctors, nurses and staff at the HSC NICU and Children’s Hospital that cared for Jack during his 358 days spent there and beyond. Heartfelt appreciation to the home care nurses who cared for Jack after he finally came home a week before his first birthday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to HSC NICU or Children’s hospital in Jack’s memory.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 14 at 10:00 A.M at Thomson in the Park Funeral Home.
