         ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਮਨ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਵੀਰ ਇਸ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ  ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ਼ੋਂ 04/10/2020 ਨੂੰ ਵਿਛੜ ਗਿਆ । ਭਾਜੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਮਿਲੀ ,ਹਰ ਕੋਈ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਪਾਲ ਸਾਡਾ ਭਰਾ ਸੀ ।
ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਿੰਦਰ ਵੀਰ ਤੇ ਹਰਦੇਵ ਭੈਣ ਨੂੰ ਫੋਟੋਆਂ ਚ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੀ ਸੀ , ਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਤੂੰ ਵੀ ਮੈਂਨੂ ਆਪਣੀ ਫੋਟੋ ਦੇਖੱਣ ਲਈ ਛੱਡ ਗਿਆ ।
ਤੁਸੀਂ  ਮੇਰੀ ਭਾਬੀ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਇਕਲਾ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ ਹੋ , ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਕ ਪਲ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਛੱਡਦੇ , ਉਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਰਹੇਗੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਬਿਨਾ ।
ਮੈਂਨੂ ਯਾਦ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਛੋਟੇ ਹੁੰਦਿਆਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਂਨੂ ਕਹਿੰਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜਦੋਂ ਵੀ ਯਾਦ ਕਰੇਗੀ , ਜਾਂ ਬੁਲਾਵੇਂਗੀ , ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਜਾਵਾਂਗਾ ,  ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਾਜਾਂ ਮਾਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ , ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਂਓਦੀ ।
ਭਾਪਾ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਦ , ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਜਿਮੇਵਾਰੀਆਂ ਨਿਭਾਈਆਂ ।
ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਭਾਬੀ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਲੋੜ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰੇ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ !!
ਉਸ ਰੱਬ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਿਖੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਬਦਲ ਸਕਿਆ ਹੈ , ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਾਣੈ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਂ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੀ ਪੈਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਮੈਂ ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੁਹਾਡੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਤੇ ਯਾਦਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ‘ਚ’ ਰੱਖਾਂਗੀ ।
ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ।

My heart sinks everytime I think that my mama ji is no more. All those years that I stayed in his house, I was given so much love. He taught me so much - work hard, planning ahead, being committed, never giving  up. He was there for me for so many things-  opening up my first bank account, getting my drivers license, my first job, driving me to my work, school and friends houses. He always encouraged me to get education and was always proud of my achievements at school. I wish I had visited  him more often in Winnipeg and am very sorry for not doing that.  I will miss him very much and will always remember him for everything that he has done for me. Thank you for everything Mama ji. May your soul Rest In Peace  ❤️. 

My dear brothers and Mammi ji, 
After hearing about the tragic news about mama ji's passing, I felt a lot of sorrow. He was very happy and genuine. He could talk and interact with anyone, he would talk to children and get them to open up, and when he talked to other adults, he would be able to be serious. As a kid, I would have so much fun with mamma ji. Unfortunately, he will not be able to come back. Now all I have are his memories and I will cherish them. 

My dear brothers Don, Tim and Mammi ji, 
I was heartbroken to learn of Mamma ji’s passing and attending his funeral service. Words can not express the personality he had. He will truly be missed in our lives. He was a man of principles, very transparent. His attitude towards life was always positive. He was a self made person. Grief can be so hard, but his special memories help us cope. I have never seen a person so punctual. When he was visiting our house in India, I was driving him around on my bike. That was the golden time of my life because I had the privilege of spending time with him. When I came to Canada, Mama ji took me to Winnipeg. Everybody in the house gave me so much love that I cannot forget. During that time, I got to know him closely. He was truly “simple living and high thinking”. He never believed in showing off. He was very down to Earth. My brothers Don and Tim, He was really proud of you both.  I pray to Waheguru to give us all strength to bear this great loss. RIP Mamma Ji

I am Jagpal's niece, Bobbie, Surinderjeet Singh Johal's daughter from Kamloops BC. I had to submit my memories to the funeral home via email today because it was more like a giant essay. The system could not even process it because it was past the word limit. This '2000-words limit' is not enough for me to capture the essence of all of my memories of thiyaji. Everyone needs proper closure after a death, which is so difficult when we cannot even attend funeral processions in person due to all of these covid regulations. So today near 2pm Manitoba time during or before the service, the funeral home has agreed to my special request. They will hand over my essay to Don and Tim and Thiyiji in the form of a letter. I hope they will feel the love emanating from within that essay about how our family's story started in Canada at the original house in Kamloops. This is perhaps better than just a quick post on a webpage. It is not as impersonal. It is a tribute from my heart, something they can hold in their hands at the service so I too can be near thiyaji today in my own way. At the very least, it makes me feel like I am going to be there in spirit. Where there is a will, there is a way. I have managed to attend my thiyaji's funeral in the form of a letter. I deserve to be there even if it is just through the words on a page. We all wanted to be there in Winnipeg today because Jagpal was always there for all of us... So this is a good feeling for me and satisfying that somehow I am going to outsmart this Covid and I am going to that funeral today even if it is in the form of a letter! (I must get this brainpower and willpower from my Johal side.) Maybe this goes to prove how the spirit lives inside all of us and the Spirit truly can move you... And, more importantly, THE SPIRIT ALWAYS LIVES ON....I miss you thiyaji. ...Wish we could all be there together at this time. Thinking of my brothers Don and Tim and my Thiyiji... He talked to me in February and told me he wants to visit and meet the families in Toronto but unfortunately Covid started and lock down started. He said he would be coming after the Covid would be over.

I talked to him often and felt really loved. After my mother passed, he was a really big support in our lives. He would always give great advice when asked. Sometimes he became emotional as he was so far from all of us. Even though he was far, he always made sure to reach at all important milestones in our lives. 

Don and Tim, this was an unexpected loss and I feel sorry today that he is not physically with us anymore. But his support and love is always with us. Your Toronto family is always here when you need.

We had a wonderful Mama Ji, one who never really grew old,
His smile was made of sunshine, and his heart was made of gold.

Where do I start to describe my Mama ji? He was the oldest son in the family and had three siblings (two sisters and a brother), one of which was my beautiful mother. He had a great childhood and even though my grandparents weren’t very rich, they tried giving their kids everything they needed. Their hearts were full of love and they instilled in them the importance of education from a young age. Taking this lesson forward, all siblings made sure to get high levels of education. 

My Mama ji studied at Mahilpur as his father was a teacher there. When I taught in Mahilpur years later, everyone gave me a tremendous amount of love and respect because I was his niece. Whole Mahilpur treated me as my “nanka pind”. That was just his personality; people remembered him and respected him years later. This same goes in Manitoba, where my Mama ji worked as a Teacher and Principal. His dedication towards his profession motivated me to get into teaching in Brampton.

When I stayed with him in Winnipeg years ago, I realized that he was a dedicated husband to his beautiful wife, my Mami ji. Their relationship was so perfect, and they made marriage look effortless even though their union had lasted for over 56 years. He had a great amount of love for his kids, Donnie (Marla) and Tim (Sukhi). I remember him always proudly talking about their successes. 

Yesterday I called at his home phone and heard his recorded voice on the voicemail, and it was in that moment that my heard sank as I realized that I will never hear him speak again. I was in tears. But it gives me a bit of calm to know that resting peacefully with his parents and other two siblings in heaven.

Mami Ji, Donnie and Tim, your Toronto family is always there for you. Your Fuffar Ji, your brothers (Amarjot and Charanpreet) and your sisters (Jyoti and Mina) are sending you love and strength.

Paul bhaji will be missed greatly by all of our Nanka-family. We can never forget the time that we spent together in Malri. It was shocking for us to know about the loss of our eldest and dearest cousin. 
Minder Bhabhi ji- May God gives you strength and patience to bear all this pain. May your beautiful memories bring comfort during this time of grief.
Donny, Tim and Bhabhi ji- please be strong so his soul can rest in peace. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Few words can’t describe my mama ji’s( uncle’s)  personality.
He was the one ( along with mammi ji) who try to attend most of  family events ( in India ,Ontario , B.C) .
Always there for his  family and extended family .( his sisters n his brother’s family  and his cousins ) .
I think I got to know him more when I went to Winnipeg to see my sister .
My bond got more strong with them ( mama ji’s n mami ji ) because of my sister ‘ Deepi’.
I had chance to spend sometime with him n his family back in 2002 and had lot of good memories to cherish , one of them is he would ask me to cook his favorite dish & ask me ‘ aaj ki bana ke khuawengi’
I remember his visits to India , listening to his stories when he was young , his passion for old punjabi songs and gulam Ali .
Me and him would crack jokes like there’s no limit and mammi ji would say “chalo bas karo hun tusi dohein mama bhanji “
Will miss your smile forever but will keep your memories alive in my heart .and keep listening to your bachpan Dian stories from mom .
I know you are at peace and you are looking over all of us .
 May waheguru give strength to accept his bhana to mami ji ,Donnie , Timmie, & rest of the Johal family .

I remember all the hard work Uncle ji put into our summer camps and also with his seva at the Gurudwara. He always greeted us with a smile and would always ask about our parents. Our deepest condolences to everyone...big hugs to all of you.
