This is a lovely memorial, and Jim and you were so welcoming when we were trying to do our best for CHICA-Canada. He was so supportive of us both even we you picked me up in the early hours after being stranded at YVR due to fog.
You are so welcome to visit us anytime.

Uncle Jim,

I have many happy memories of Uncle Jim. Visits as a child, during his Navy days, to Gosport and Plymouth. A memorable boating holiday with Uncle Jim and Family, Hilary and Robin and my Father (Uncle Jim's twin brother) on the Norfolk Broads. Trips to Elie and to Edinburgh. A long gap between Uncle Jim's departure to Canada and seeing him again at Dad and Uncle Jim's joint 70th Birthday party in Glasgow, it was amazing to see how similar they both still were despite many years and many miles.

May you rest in peace, my thoughts and prayers are with Uncle Jim's Children, Bridget, Liz and Michael and with his Sister, Hilary and all the family.

When Dr. Kirkpatrick left the TGH some years back, in the summer of 2003, we all celebrated good times spent together with a causual outing of golf, a great BBQ,sharing some memorable stories. Upon departure of the event, he thanked all that had attended and expressed his pleasure in the services he had given. I said in response to him, NO,NO, Dr. Kirkpatrick it has been my pleasure. I was his nursing assistant @ the NCC in Thompson for 5 wonderfull shared years. I will miss him dearly my friend.        Rene Bryson

So sorry I cannot be with you all today the 20th of april ,my prayers are with you.

A parent to be proud of, my father was always a professional dedicated to the care of his patients above all else, and continued to work well beyond the normal retirement age.   His twin brother, John, predeceased him, and I have added a photograph of the two of them at their joint 70th birthday celebration in Glasgow.

I only knew Jim for a year, but I learnt so much from this man. The laughs we shared together and the stories he told me about his life as well as life in general. I learnt so much from him as well appreciated his words of wisdom. Forever I will keep the picture we painted together. I will always remember Jim.


Uncle Jim was a great uncle to have around when I was growing up in Scotland - I fondly remember time spent with him in Edinburgh and in Elie. 

My most recent memory of him was seeing him with his brother John, dressed in their tartan trews, with most of their family at their 70th birthday party in Glasgow.  It was a very special day for both of them.

Uncle Jim has been an important part of the Kirkpatrick medical tradition which goes back several generations and continues on in his children and grandchildren.

I will be thinking of him and the family on Tuesday.

Although I did not know Jim as well as most, my fleetest of meetings with him at a very early age, set in motion my ambition's to attend university and attain even a sliver of the grandeur that Jim, and his brother John, succeeded in harvesting. Despite being only eight, and my memory of him being clouded and occluded, the impressions he left upon my psyche have remained with me to this day, and I thank him from the depths of my heart for the ambition he has bestowed so unknowingly upon me.

I hope that his journey to the end was swift and painless, and his stepping across the Gates as uneventful as can be expected from such and event. 

I bow my head deeply in respect of this marvellous man, his knowledge great, but his kindness and understanding greater still. I also nod my head solemnly in the direction of everyone who knows of him, cares of him, and suffers with me at his passing

He has bestowed a great wisdom upon the hearts of the youth which shall succeed him, if only in time, and not in achievement.

I have only a few, but very precious memories of my Grandpa which I will treasure forever. Living so far away in the UK I unfortunately did not get to see much of him or learn about who he was. I had been planning to come out and see him this year but sadly I left it too late, something I will always regret. Due to the volcanic ash situation in Europe myself and my mum (Bridget) have been unable to get a flight out in time for the service on Tuesday morning which we had both so wished to be able to go to, to  talk to Grandpa’s friends and to say goodbye. We have been looking through old photographs and remembering the happy times we spent together and I will be thinking of him on Tuesday and my Aunty Liz and Uncle Mike and all his friends at this sad time.

I have so many happy memories of growing up in Inverness with my big twin brothers, Jim and John, - it was never dull and they were a lively pair. They had a passion for plane spotting which got them into no end of trouble for going to the local air force station!.. Fishing and sailing were their other two favourite pastimes and I know that the love of sailing was always there for Jim.

Jim always knew that he wanted to be a doctor - like our parents -  and he went on to be such a good one.

Jim's relationship with John was a very close and important one and John's death was such a blow to him.

I have lots of happy memories of Jim - of holidays with him, Helen and the children in Malta and Cornwall during his time in the navy and at Elie in Fife where our parents retired.

Since Jim went to live in Canada, sadly, we have seen very little of each other apart from a memorable week I spent in Winnipeg in 1983 with him and Liz. Phone calls and emails helped but the last months have been very frustrating and I wish I could have been able to see him. Robin and I will be thinking of him on Tuesday especially and of his children and their loss.

Sincere condolences to the family of Doctor Kirkpatrick. He treated me with kindness and understanding for many years following initial surgery in 1979. A gifted and dedicated Physician and Surgeon.
