At the age of 83 years, Jim died at Grace Hospital on May 26, 2011.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 40 years, Marilyn; his daughters Marjorie and Joan (Darrel Harmon); his granddaughters Claire and Kimber; his pal Steven; and other family and friends. Jim was predeceased by his son, Tim; his first wife, Phyllis; his six siblings, Mary, Grace, Bob, Morris, Jud, and Joe; and his parents, Justin and Theresa.
Jim was born on August 24, 1927, in Sanford, Manitoba, where he grew up and later farmed. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy (Reserve) from 1952 to 1957. He trained as an electrician and worked at Canada Cement Lafarge in Fort Whyte for years. He later worked as a correctional officer for the Province of Manitoba at Headingley Correctional Centre, where he was much admired and respected by his co-workers. He retired from that position in 1992 after 23 years of service. Jim spent his retirement years travelling to warmer winters and spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of the Army Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada (A.N.A.F.), Unit 60.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba.
