

Husband of Jeyamalar (Thanga), father of Janu Rajee and Jeevan. Father-in-law to Gaabriyal Sathiyamoorthy and Arielle Jeyanthan. Brother of Jayanthy Gnananandan (Ponniah Gnananandan) and Jey Surier (Priyanka Surier).
Born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka, Jay moved to New Jersey, USA, in 1983 to pursue higher studies before settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 1985. He graduated from the University of Manitoba and dedicated 25 years of service to the Federal Government of Canada. Jay’s passion for community service began at the young age of 17 and remained a lifelong commitment. He dedicated himself to numerous nonprofit and charitable organizations, serving in leadership roles with the Tamil Society of Manitoba, Hindu Society of Manitoba, Tamil Hindu Group, Folklorama, Vedanta Society of Manitoba, United Way, Liberal Party of Manitoba (Seine River), Liberal Party of Canada (Winnipeg South). For his unwavering contributions, he was recognized with the Canadian Government Volunteer Award. As a proud Tamil Canadian, he served the Tamil Cultural Society of Manitoba for the last four decades, and was the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedication.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at Thomson in the Park, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, MB. A livestream of the service will be available for those unable to attend in person
