Following a brief illness, it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Khamphouk Thephasone. He passed on April 23rd of 2025 at the age of 65.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Souksavanh, son Christopher (Julia), daughter Marina (Tylor), grandson Neo, sisters Sinouane and Bounsouane, brothers Khamphong, Sysong, Kongkeo, and Bouathong, and nieces and nephews Anne, David, Terry, Elizabeth, Austin, Tyler, Faith, Tony, Aurora, Aroma, Na, Da, Siphane, Inpaeng, Rhea, Suqui, Sim, Victor, and Brianna. He was predeceased by his father Sifong Thephasone and his mother Bouneuey Nachampassak.
Khamphouk was born on March 6th of 1960, in Don Talad, Laos. He grew up with 2 older sisters and 4 other brothers. He attended elementary school in Don Talad prior to moving to Champassak where he continued his education through Troisième. There, he studied the French language and planned to become a teacher. During the Vietnam War, he fled Laos to seek refuge through Thailand. He offered French tutoring lessons to make a bit of income during his time there. He then chose to make Canada his new home. After many flights and many hours of traveling, he made his final stop in Winnipeg.
Khamphouk studied machining at Red River College which led him to become a journeyman machinist. During his studies he met Souksavanh through the small Laotian community in Manitoba. He then moved to Selkirk, where they got married in October of 1984. In April of 1987, they welcomed their son Christopher into the world. The family moved to Pinawa where Khamphouk started his apprenticeship with Whiteshell Laboratories. In June of 1992, his daughter Marina was born and their family felt complete. Through odd jobs between photofinishing and newspaper deliveries, Khamphouk started his career at Quality Design in Winnipeg where he worked for over 30 years as a cabinetmaker.
Khamphouk loved spending time with his family, whether it be camping in Saskatchewan or going to the movies to see the latest action film. He also valued his quiet time by doing word searches or listening to music while silently singing to himself. He enjoyed fishing in Selkirk with family and friends. Khamphouk recently spent most of his time with his grandson watching funny animal videos or walking to the playground at the park. He was fortunate enough to travel to many different places in his lifetime. He visited his brothers and father in North Carolina, made trips to Indiana to visit his sister-in-law, has been across Canada as far as Vancouver and Montreal, and had multiple trips travelling back home to Laos.
After his trip to Laos in December 2024, he became suddenly ill and was diagnosed with Stage D liver cancer. Despite believing he was getting better, Khamphouk was admitted into hospital on the morning of April 23rd of 2025 where he later passed away at 10:55 PM. He was surrounded by his close family up until his very last breath.
Khamphouk is remembered to be a humble and easy-going man who had all the best stories. He was always ready to lend a helping hand.
The Thephasone Family would like to thank all the staff between Seven Oaks Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre for making him as comfortable as he could have been during his time of illness.
