November 28th, 1941 – November 14th, 2021
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the death of Larry Wayne Cooley, 79 years of age, from Corticobasal Degeneration. Larry was well loved and well cared for during the latter years of his life by the amazing staff at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home.
Larry was born on November 28th, 1941 in Minnedosa, Manitoba. He was raised by his mom Elsie Cooley Rose, his grandparents Stan and Martha Purdy and Anne and Alfred Cooley and numerous aunts and uncles. He leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years, Vera (Storozuk), his daughters Naomi Cooley (Darren, Everett, Logan), Rachel Small (Trevor, Nora, Cade) his brothers, Dale and Garth, and their families.
Larry touched the lives of so many with his quiet listening, his calm demeanor and genuine interest in the thoughts and lives of others. Many remember Larry’s gentle baritone voice that drew his audience into captivating stories. Larry touched young lives, helping children and their families navigate tough times through his work as a school psychologist at Assiniboine South School Division. During his time as Professor and Dean at St. Paul’s college at the University of Manitoba, Larry also made a lasting impression on his students. Students that he taught back in the mid 1980’s have continued to stay in touch and visit when they came into town. The staff at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home repeatedly remarked about how many visitors Larry always had – a true testament to his character and nature. Our family will truly miss his deep baritone singing, his solid unwavering support and his unconditional love.
Due to Covid-19 Restrictions, a private memorial service is being planned by invitation only.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Karen Ethans and her staff at the Health Sciences Centre and all of the staff at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home.
Larry was continually awed by the beauty and majesty of Lake Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Lake Winnipeg Foundation.
