Mr. Larry George Davidson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Larry George Davidson on Saturday, June 4th at Riverview Health Centre after a brief battle with cancer at age 70. Much loved husband of Judy and father to Lee Davidson and her husband Bryan Terleski.

Larry is survived by his brother Jim (Brenda) Davidson; brothers-in-law Ken (Audrey), Victoria in B.C, Lorne in Swan River, Howard (Colleen) Hrappstead in Calgary; and sisters-in-law Margaret (Terry) Neely in Swan River, Irene and Janis Hrappstead in Alberta and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Larry was predeceased by his father and mother, Hubert (1990), Nona (2006) Davidson; father and mother-in-law Walter (1972), Florence (2004) Hrappstead; brothers-in-law John (2016), Floyd (2016) Hrappstead; sisters-in-law Shirley (1994), Evelyn (1997), Iris (2002) Hrappstead.

Larry was born on February 2nd, 1946 in Winnipeg, the eldest son of Hubert and Nona Davidson. When Larry was 4, his family moved to Swan River where his father's family resided.

Larry was a proud yet humble man, very patient and easygoing, with a great sense of humor and quick wit, which served him well as a police officer. In 1967 Larry joined the Winnipeg Police Department and retired in 1994 after 27 years of service. When Larry was 8 years old his teacher asked him to draw a picture of what he wanted to be when he grew up and he drew a policeman. He followed his heart and he loved being a policeman.

At Larry's retirement luncheon one of his colleagues of whom he met when he first joined the force had these words to say about Larry; "Larry worked in Div. 11, Traffic, Div. 14, Div. 12 and was well liked in all those Divisions. When in Div. 11, Larry was the original community based police officer in walking the Main Street strip. Larry set the standard while patrolling his beat and showed many a rookie what 'real' police work was like. Those young officers will forever be in his debt for experience they would never receive in a text book. I was told Larry never carried a night stick while assigned to the drag, but always had his pool cue at the ready. In District 2 on occasion on Sunday 3rd relief, Larry would have an investigation at 6 Nicholas and inevitably a few officers would have a fine meal of Chinese food. I have been around 6 Nicholas and have yet to find that Chinese restaurant, one of Larry's secrets. The City of Winnipeg and public (except speeders) are loosing a valuable asset with the retirement of Larry. Larry always treated everyone with respect and courtesy, which even the speeders had to appreciate."

In 1969, Larry married his high school sweetheart Judy and they would have celebrated their 47th Anniversary on August 1st. On August 25th, 1976 Larry and Judy had a beautiful baby girl Lee. The day she was born Larry was so happy he jumped off the steps of the Women's Hospital. Larry was very proud of Lee and of course she had him wrapped around her little finger.

Growing up Larry could be found with his friends swimming in the Swan River or honing his skills at the pool hall. Larry was still enjoying swimming until recently at the Pan Am Pool.

Larry's love for music and collecting records started at a young age, he would help his Dad at Davidson Transfer and when he got paid he went straight to the record store. He loved all different genres of music, but his favorite artist was Elvis. Larry had the opportunity to meet several artists such as Ricky Nelson, Johnny Cash and Rod Stewart, but never his idol Elvis, though he made it a few times to Graceland.

Larry loved to travel, most recently in January to Palm Springs which was his favorite, where he attended the PGA West Golf Tournament. Larry and Judy loved golfing together but his favorite thing to do was just to go out for coffee. Larry also loved everything about Christmas, he could even be found listening to carols in the summer. Larry always took pride in keeping his shoes spit and polished, of which he received many compliments.

In keeping with Larry's wishes, a memorial service will not be held.
