It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, after a short illness, of Loree Brega.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 39 years Gerald, daughters Audra Nyhuis, husband Mike, their children Harley and Jaden, Janine Gaudes, husband Grant, their children Carter, and Parker. Brother Mike Bruenig wife Wanda, nieces and nephews Elisa (Wes), Jordan (Aimee), Mikkela (Brett), great nieces and nephews Brynlee, Brielle, Scarlett, Rebekah, Maksim, and Armin. Also, her beloved furry grand dogs.
For most of Loree’s working career she was a courier for various companies. In the last part of her career and during the Covid pandemic, she delivered Covid vaccines and medical supplies to hospital, clinics, and medical facilities in Winnipeg.
After 37 years, Loree decided to retire to spend more time with her husband Gerry. She enjoyed their long walks and took up Gerry’s passion of gardening along with him. On special occasions or when she had an intuition, they would spend the evening at the casino to try their luck at the slot machines.
Loree spent countless hours making Monk’s Linen Cloth blankets for family members and friends. We were always touched by how each one was personalized as she proudly gifted them to us.
After the birth of the first grandchild, she lovingly became known by all of us as Nana-Ree.
Nana-Ree would never say no to watching the grandkids and they were always on the hunt for her famous Peanut Butter Chocolates. The agenda for the sleepovers always consisted of sweets, games, and the latest cartoon movie that Nana-Ree enjoyed just as much as the grandkids. The grandkids could always count on Nana-Ree to organize a big Easter egg hunt that even had the parents join in on the fun.
At Christmas time, she made gift opening fun as she always over taped the boxes to make the grandkids work for their presents. Christmas music, a pool tournament with a trophy to the winner, and the latest DVD movie became a yearly tradition.
When the grandchildren had grown, she was more than happy to start dog sitting for the furry grandbabies. On arrival to the house, they would greet her with wagging tails and follow her to the cupboard eagerly waiting for their treats.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the HSC ER and ward GD-5 for their care and compassion during her short stay.
Nana-Ree, you were taken from us too soon. We will miss your silly stories and your happy outlook on life.
A service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, August 13th at Thomson “in the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, join Loree’s love for animals and if you should wish, consider making a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society or an animal shelter of your choice.
